Ask a Question

My son is three and I’m trying to get him confident counting. Any tips on how to get him to engage in it? Thank you

Though music my 4 year old can count to 30 and she basically learned it by watching YouTube nursery channels blippi was her favourite. Same way she learned her abc. She now recognises number to 100 but only by pointing to them, people don't recommend tablets or YouTube but this is how they teach in school too well maybe not every school but ours do

Use songs, use his toys, ask him to get you a certain number of something, wherever you are count things out loud, ask him how many of something there is.

"Counting songs" and joining in with them (you as well) is probably one of the best ways. Make learning fun.

Here's just one of many:

nina090976 Thanks glad your kids enjoyed it, I might add simple board games like Ludo or Snakes and Ladders, help the understanding of numbers and counting skills.

When older darts help with adding and subtraction. (and decorating skills until they get reasonably skilled)☺.
