Tips for Saving Money Quickly

Ask a Question

Me and my partner recently got engaged and we need to save money for our wedding, which we plan to do next June.. no matter how much I try to cut the costs down, it’s still a crazy amount of money!

Anyone have any tips of how to save a large amount of money quickly??

When we got married we literally cut out anything we didn't need. So no take aways, no going out for food or coffee, no going to the cinema, only buying what we absolutely needed in the food shop and buying yellow stickers when possible, no new clothes or shoes, using up all toiletries before buying new ones, no buying new make up or perfume and when we needed to renew insurance etc looked for the best deals. All of those little steps helped add up to a big chunk of money and savings of roughly £600 each month.

If you aren't already using them check out sites like topcashback and Quidco, where you get cashback from lots of different retailers. Try selling any items you don't want or use, preferably on one of the free sites, don't forget, one man's rubbish is anothers treasure. Remember that even if it's a large amount of money every pound you save will add up and help. Most importantly congratulations and no matter how big or small your wedding is, it will be one of the best days of your life ♥️

Thanks so much 😌 do you have a recommendation of which cashback site is the best? I’ve never actually used one but I’ve been meaning to!

sarahgreen15 I've used Quidco in the past but I'm using topcashback at the moment and I'm really pleased with it. Also if you can go through the site to buy Christmas presents you will be able to get some cashback on them. It's definitely worth using one ☺️

Janhrrs thanks so much, I’ll definitely be trying this out! Does it work with the likes of eBay and Amazon? 🤔

Those are good tips already and have you thought about using a monthly budget sheet to check out your outgoings and know which best to cut or reduce. All good saying cut takeaway but if yours is gym membership then maybe think about doing it at home with YouTube videos or a nice jog around a park

I also went thought ever room in house had a good sort out what hadn’t use put in a sale box cloths shoes books etc and put in a sale box you be surprised what you have that haven’t used in a ling time or no longer fits but your keeping onto it that all adds up to funds for your wedding old gadgets hanging around

Thanks so much everyone 🙌🏻 one of the battles I’m facing is I can quite easily cut out a lot of things but my partner isn’t great at it.. he loves his food and enjoys spending far more than saving 🤦🏻‍♀️ definitely going to try these ideas though!

Tell him let’s do it for a month no takeaways treats etc and see what you save I think he will change is mind when he sees the pot with cash that was wasted you can even make your own if he wonts to marry you then he will do it

One of the things that really helped us to save was taking homemade soup to work for lunch. If you get the special buy vegetables from aldi, the soups turn out really cheap and you can add flavour with spices. It had the added benefit for me too as it helped me lose loads of weight!

use only cash, take out a set amount each week that you’ll need & don’t be tempted to use your card (unless an emergency!) At the end of the week whatever you have left over put it in one of those ceramic pots/tins that you can’t get into and start over again the following week. This really helped us save for holidays & now we’re doing it for Christmas x

Last Christmas we were on a tight budget, so, we used the phrase "use what you've got" for every situation. The food in t h e freezer and the cupboards, the decorations, even the gifts we gave. We've all got the cupboard of' just in case stuff' , well it's surprising how much stash we utilised. That would be my top tip.....use what you're got.
