Why Is There Travel Competitions Right Now?

Ask a Question

Not sure why there are still lots of travel competitions on the go considering most of the world is in lockdown for the forseeable future.

I saw a competition posted on here a couple of weeks ago for a holiday to Milan. That competition received hundreds of entries from LD alone. I don't understand it.

A few I've noticed have had a caveat that the prize will only be awarded or can be redeemed after things get back to normal.

One I did see today though said the prize must be taken by the end of April!

RegularComper90 It does make you wonder, a few simple words stating that you can take the holiday when things have settled down is all it takes.

I posted a travel competition yesterday, but the closing date is in late October. So things would need to get really bad to effect that prize... I'm still entering travel competitions because there is always the chance later departure dates or an alternative prize will be offered...

We may well see a lot of cruise competitions when the restrictions are lifted. The industry has received a lot of bad press over the last couple of months. Many travelers now regard cruise ships as virus incubators or even deathtraps and it's likely a lot of people will be hesitant about travelling on them in the future. The cruise industry will need to go on a charm offensive 🛳️

Most comps stipulate prizes must be taken up within 12 months. The comp you mention ends in October so the terms and conditions may state use by October 2021.

I have stopped entering prizes that must be taken this year, only entering those which close mid year and have a year to take up.

If the situation is still bad and lucky enough to win I just wouldn't go.

The holiday must be taken by the 28th November 2020 and is subject to availability at time of booking.

No cash alternative

The prize is not transferable

This is in t & c of one comp currently running. It is silly to think that people can book a holiday by then, possibly after months at home, might not even be safe by then. Winners should be given at least a year to take their prize.

In my opinion, it is clear that all these T&C's were edited before the pandemic, and will obviously be made more flexible.

The last competition that I won via LD, was a ski trip to Switzerland, before all this happened. T&C's said the prize was due until the first week of April 2020, but as I had just returned from my holidays, I contacted the company explaining the situation, and they agreed to move the prize to the next season winter in 2021.

That was all before the pandemic happened, so it is important to think on the positive side, companies can be flexible, especially now that air spaces are closed in most countries.

I feel sure that provided the comp provider survives then holidays will be honoured in the future after this is all over. 🐞
