Do You Trust PayPal?

Ask a Question

I was dubious about them years ago, but now I’ve realised I use them more than the traditional banks, and if I can pay via PayPal in person I’d rather do that - if you have credit on your account, it’s definitely worth using rather than losing some of it to transaction fees when you transfer it to your bank

I've always felt safe using PayPal, it's very useful for some things (such as eBay)

I use Paypal. Like you Iwas very wary when they first appeared but I do find that during the past year or so I also use them to make more payments than I used to & easily too. I quite like them. 😀 🐞

If I'm making a purchase on a less well known website for the first time I feel safer using Paypal.

We use PayPal all the time. We use it to pay for things on gumtree/fb and more well known sites and when selling things I ask for payment via PayPal. I have used it more the last year than I previously did, purely because I've been selling things.

Yes, I have used Paypal for years and have never had any security issues. I shop online and quite often use it for websites that I have not used before, so as not dishing out my card details again and again.

There are always scam emails going about and I have had a few in the past few weeks. But in the same way that banks state - they will never send emails that require a log in through an attached link. If you are unsure, don't do it, I always say and seek advice.

They saved my arse when FlyBe went down the pan so yes, I use and trust them all the time. It was started by Elon Musk over 21 years ago so been around longer than most popular websites.

I don't know where you got the impression that there is a fee to withdraw money. I think there was a long time ago but that is not the case now for a standard transfer. I think they may charge to speed it up but that's all.

My wife uses my account to get payments when she sells stuff.

We use friends and family, or whatever it is, so we pay no fees.

I think PayPal is safe and I've been able to claim back when things have gone wrong.

One point to mention is if you pay via PayPal but on a credit card through PayPal you don't get the same level of protection you would by paying directly on your credit card. For instance if the company doesn't take American Express but you pay via PayPal using your American Express you don't get the same level of protection you would be paying directly on your credit card.

I trust them as such but don't like them.

Fees are a bit too high but if there is a dispute they often side with the wrong person.

Like if people donate via paypal then chargeback, the person who got a donation is left with a huge chargeback fee of £14 per transaction on top of having to return the persons money for a donation...

If you just use them to buy from companies you probably love them.

I trust PayPal, I use it to get payments from receipt/survey apps such as Qmee or Shoppix/Receipt Hog.

Yes I think PayPal is good for using on online retailers and amazon and eBay. I have used them before to resolve an issue of counterfeit goods and they resolved it quickly.

Paypal are safe for non-delivery of items but they operate outside UK law. It's difficult to take them to the small claims court and if you use them for payments over £100 with your credit card you lose your section 75 protection on the purchase. I personally would ban them from operating in the UK until they have a proper UK base which may happen when we finally leave the EU.

You can see the reviews here with many people having horror stories and losing thousands.

Paypal are used for many scams. Typically people buy from gumtree or facebook marketplace and pay with paypal collect the goods and then simply reverse the payment which is surprisingly easy to do.

The only time I like using paypal is if its misprice or super bargain the fact paypal take the money immediately means they are under more pressure to fulfill the purchase. In the past I purchased a mispriced item from two different accounts. One I paid with paypal which was honoured but the other was a direct credit card transaction and they didn't take payment until despatch and they only honoured the paypal transaction. I think there may be a small transaction fee which is not returned if an item is refunded.

i use paypal all the time but I always make sure I log out after use. I have received a couple of dodgy emails and I have had to change my password once but other than that it's great for making quick online purchases.

I was charged twice for the service I did not recive. Paypal refunded only one charge and is refusing to sort the issue. I cannot claim again as both claims are showing as already resolved. The seller admitted the error but don't want to give a refund for 2nd charge. They told me they will give me discount if I book with them again. I am not accepting it. What eles should I do now?

That sounds like a difficult one. Have you forwarded all your correspondences to PayPal to prove the liability falls with the seller?

hspexy I did but the only what I get from PayPal is that my claim was resolved and that's it. They do not care. I will try again with the seller.

oliwka85 that’s a shame. It sounds like they’re trying to wash their hands of it, which is annoying. Is this with an eBay seller?

that’s the same for me too. In fact these days I actively scout out the retailers that accept PayPal, include those that sell flights and holidays, as I find those companies tend to have a better reputation
