BBC is changing its TV Licence Fee

In the News

THE BBC licence fee is set to be scrapped and replaced with a subscription service, it was reported last night.

Senior aides to No10 insisted they were “not bluffing” about changing the way the corporation is funded, sources told The Sunday Times.

What do you think of this?

Great if true although I imagine it will be some years off to allow the BBC to adapt. Ultimately the BBC I'm sure will become a lot smaller. I look forward to being able to watch live itv, ch4 and ch5 again rather than just catchup services of those channels.

Lets hope 'the subscription' costs less or equal to what the tv licence is per month or that wont fly either🙁

Surely it will be more expensive as the majority won't pay for a BBC subscription. It's going to be at least £20 a month I would of thought. The BBC is grossly inefficient with very high wages, often far higher than Sky or ITV which are commercial channels. Personally I think BBC News should be funded through normal taxation although possibly should be downsized with a reduction in costs as you could make the case this is a public service rather than an entertainment channel. The BBC has a huge library of programs it gets revenue from which means it has some independent income already.

What is actually good to watch on BBC anyway? Scrap the tv licence and go the subscription service and so how many people dont watch BBC because most of it is pure sh%te.

BBC is important, because it provides real news and the government want to wipe them to make people brain washed. I never agreed with licence fee and it felt to expensive to me, better to get subscription charge and if it cost a lot just not get it.

I'll believe it when I see it. I don't trust what they're saying at the moment. Personally I don't see the point in having a tv licence these days

I really hope this is true. I cannot think of the last time I watched anything on BBC. I agree that it will probably take years for this to happen though.

My family kept paying for the TV License since about.. 2000 till 2018-19, they refused to believe even though I'd shown them the evidence and reasons why you'd have/or not to pay for the darn thing. I sent an email with all the info necessary and the TVL was cancelled.

They assumed just as long as you have a TV that you would need to pay for it. So if a microwave or a freezer had a TV they would still say yes. Seriously, they did think. They're probably not the only ones as many go by the same flawed logic and pay unnecessarily.
