UK Launches £315m New Tech Fund to Help Industry Cut Emissions

In the News

The British government has launched a £315m hunt to find new technologies that can shrink the carbon footprint of the most polluting factories to help meet the UK’s climate targets.

The scheme will offer funds over the next five years to energy-intensive firms, such as manufacturers, to invest in new technology which can reduce their energy use.

Ministers hope the scheme will help save £1bn a year on industrial energy bills, and cut carbon emissions by 2m tonnes or the equivalent of taking nearly 200,000 cars off the road each year.

I don't feel qualified to comment properly on your topic but here is how I see carbon footprints/emissions. 5% of the population own 95% of the wealth and those with money will never scrimp on heating, lighting, fuel, cars, holidays abroad, should I go on? So it is the poorer members of society who turn off lights, turn the heating down a degree or so, boil just enough water for their drink, take shorter showers etc. That's point 1.

Secondly if the government really wanted to cut emissions they would take some draconian measures like no driving licences for under 21s, only 2 cars per household max.

Thirdly, if you have ever travelled the motorways cars are outnumbered by vans, lorries and huge great container vehicles. Well, clear and open our network of canals and get these monsters off the road that cause congestion, accidents and choking fumes.

Oh my, I could go on and on but that is enough for one comment and my apologies for not directly sticking to your topic.

Why? Just punish them if they do not upgrade....who helps to the working class to get anything?

Why do they need to help companies...
