Which Sourdough Bread Is The Best?

Other

I set myself a mission to find the nicest sourdough w could easily get hold of. We tried TESCO, ALDI, LIDL, CO-OP, LOCAL BAKERY and HOME MADE.

For us, the Co op is the out and out winner, Aldi part baked baguettes came second, with Tesco a poor runner up. I thought home made would be best but it was maybe the worst. I was surprised at the Co op winning as I'm constantly disappointed by our store on the few occasions I risk it.....and the bonus is that it's a ten min walk away! Terrific. Thanks to whoever suggested us trying Co op for bread! Was it Yahya ... I think it was. We did make our own sourdough crackers and they were addictive!!!! Best I ever tasted!

Yahya ... we did enjoy it ... the plain sourdough has always gone by the time I get there ... evidently popular... but the seeded one is good. Thanks again.

Ann1984 sadly no Morrisons here for us but that'll help others. We're not badly off here but no Morrisons or Ocado.

Homemade sourdough bread is the best. It’s not difficult with a little bit of patience. Fun too!

dawarwick ... it must depend on the recipe ... the ones my chef brother made looked great but they just didn't have the edge ... Image

I think the co-op one is very nice but I tried the other day the sourdough rye bread from Aldi and liked it.

BORDERJOE My pleasure... 1 kilo purpose flour 3 spones of Greek yogurt 1 spone of yeast pinsh of salt and cup of warm water

The dough should be so soft and bubbly on ur hand and give it time to rest properly in till is the dough double then u can bake it

nezhagirach hey thanks so much....I really do appreciate it! I'll let you know when I've had a go ... it'll be next week tho. One question, hope it's not a daft one .... so you use plain/all purpose ..... not bread flour?

I'll need to try get to a co op. My little boy loves sourdough bread. I've been trying to find one that I can try at home with him. There is a little cafe where I stay that does sourdough toast. He loves it. The even make it for him at lunchtime if he asks even though it only served at breakfast.

We like theirs because it's seems softer and better texture than the others we tried but I'm going to have a go at nezhagirach 's handmade one ...especially if I get the quantities. I've not made my own by hand for yonks... we have a bread machine and a brother who bakes...tho his wasn't that great.🥴

BORDERJOE I'll give it go if he doesn't eat the rest of kids will so no waste will happen. My track record of making my own 🍞. Is absolutely rubbish.

Just speaking to the neighbour properly for first time since they moved back here and she answered so many of my queries I'd posted here ..... and I learnt new stuff too .... discovered a YouTube channel for sourdough ...she's going to give me a small loaf next week to try it out!
