Untidy Neighbours

Ask a Question

My neighbours constantly throw rubbish into the pathway behind my house. Last weekend they threw out a huge mattress. What should I do?

Keep taking pics and ring the environmental health department at your local council. Ask them not to mention that you reported it.

I think you should definitely report them. It's only going to get worse and become more of a problem if you don't.

It makes me so cross when ignorant people make their surroundings an eyesore, not just for them but others too.

There is no excuse because the council will collect for a small fee, although if they did it for free they would save themselves millions of pounds clearing up stuff that is dumped. After all that is what council tax should cover.

I don't call £19.25 an item a "small fee" for rubbish removal (I know it will vary from council to council). That £19.25 is what my own council charge. they will however give a 25p discount for a second item. But if you dare to have three items they will more than triple the cost of just one item. (Three times £19.25 = £57.75 but they'll add another 25p and make it £58).

If anyone ever found it difficult to believe the same idiotic council sold a discount card that enabled people purchasing it to pay 10p MORE for a swim, or threatened ME with court action for paying my council tax in advance, This MIGHT convince them. https://www.stockport.gov.uk/bulky-items-and-waste/waste-collection-service-charges-and-discounts

davidstockport I thought it was the same all over. My council charges £7.50 per large item which I think is reasonable.

Lynibis I was surprised, when checking, how much council area charges vary for three items. From Free in some areas up to £114 in Richmond-on-Thames. I believe in Manchester near where I am it is free for two or three bulky items a year. https://www.anyjunk.co.uk/blog/2020/01/28/council-bulky-waste-collection-england/

They should be ashamed of themselves, maybe you together with other neighbours should return the items to their garden.
