Warning to Sauna Users after Woman Left in Hospital for 12 Days
In the News
I used to use a sauna regularly when i had a regular membership with a health club many years ago , but never used to take water with me to hydrate
In fact i would nip between the sauna and steam room not thinking of this
Sometimes i still do it if the hotel i am using has these facilities for free
But this article is a warning to anyone thinking of using a sauna without drinking water regularly after this woman suffered a heart attack and multiple organ failure compounded by heat stroke
She spent a total of 26 days in hospital recovering
So always take some water with you and not just to the gym

I drink more water than a fish.I am permanently thirsty. Not diabetic just always hungry and thirsty.

See I don't understand why people would just use them if they are not smart enough to know how it affects the body I don't use a sauna and I know full well you have to drink a lot of water coz your sweating all out

Leannexxx When i used to use the gym i took a bottle of water with me L , because i knew to hydrate when exercising , but i never saw anyone take one in the sauna or steam room with them , i think because you are in there such a short time
Then you read something like this and it makes you more aware

Always took a bottle of water in with me when I used saunas, not that I stayed in the long lol there not for me

martinlufc5637 I was only in a few minutes M, hence not taking one in with me, they had drinking fountains there also so no real need

telmel I had a Turkish sauna in August for the first time, I hated it, a bloke came in with a branch with leaves on and started hitting me on the back with it lol it didn't go down well, it was boiling hot and the humidity was unbelievable , I lasted about 4 minutes, never again

telmel it was all a bit weird T to be honest lol definitely not my kind of thing

I went to one before Christmas at a local hotel for a spa morning and they actually said no drinks were allowed into the sauna. They did however have a water fountain right outside but slightly hidden. I wonder if they don't allow it to encourage you to come out earlier than if you had one. I hardly last long in them as I find it hard to breathe after a while.

I don’t particularly like them as I have asthma and an under active thyroid like the woman in the story. I have only been in them after a swim for a couple of minutes.

I don't use sauna and always drink a lot to stay hydrated. Most people I know don't drink enough

Most places that offer a sauna will put up notices to ensure you’re well hydrated. It’s important
