Do You Use Handkerchiefs?

Ask a Question

I think the last time I used handkerchiefs was when I was a kid, when it was more widely used, but these days people tend to use tissues

I guess it’s more cost effective and better for the environment, but carrying around a snot rag really doesn’t appeal to me

What do you think of this?

I use one, I don't carry it around if it's snotty, I just change it every day.

Yes I do use hankies, they’re not mine but my husbands. If you can catch a sneeze in it all well and good. They are better than a flimsy tissue. And yes I do launder and iron them!

I like the idea of using something washable but I'm also grossed out at carrying around a wet snot rag for the rest of the day.

Same here. After use, it has to go into a pocket or my bag...that definitely grosses me out

No I don't use a cloth hanky. I consider it an item from the past and the alternatives are much more hygienic. I have got a couple that I use purely for delicate items to be ironed, though.

I've started using handkerchieves because tissues break up on my pockets. I can wash handkerchieves and in a way, not using as many tissues, means I am saving the planet right? ok, not a lot but some way towards it 😃

Those who wash and iron hankies are not really helping the environment, energy is used for both.

I always have a hankie with me either in my pocket or handbag and wouldn't be without one. Mr Tumblespots also has them - we use different ones (I can tell them apart but he can't!) 🐞

I do think it’s something men are more likely to have than women. Perhaps women are more likely to carry tissues and wipes for make up, so a hanky wouldn’t be good for that

Handkerchiefs are better for the environment as used tissues are not recyclable. Provided they are washed on a hot wash (which can be done when washing your other white items) they are perfectly clean. I think they are growing in popularity due to environmental concerns, but I understand where people are coming from in relation to carrying a used one around all day!
