Never Used Amazon!

Ask a Question

So I wondered how many people have actually made purchases on Amazon?

My normal go to online retailer would be eBay rather than Amazon.

I have browsed Amazon items on the website but never made a purchase.. it looks over complicated!

I am looking to spend some of my Amazon vouchers from my surveys and it just looks complicated with things like subscribe and save and free amazon delivery.

Why can’t they just make it simple with one price for how much you need to pay for the item and how much you need to pay for postage.

Personally I find Amazon a lot easier to buy from than eBay.

Ignore the subscribe option, you can make one off purchases.

And when you get to checkout you are given a few options for delivery, depending on how quickly you need the item, or if you are willing to pay to get it the next day.

Do you lol, I guess everyone has their preference, I just find eBay much easier to navigate. Okay I think I should be okay then so long as I avoid subscribe options! Thank you 😁

Now you mention it there are so many different options at Amazon I'm not surprised it looks complicated. If you are a prime member you get different rates and delivery speeds, if its from Amazon itself it needs to be £20 or more to get free postage for slow delivery if you don't have prime then you have all the third party sellers who set their own postage rates except some have their items shipped by Amazon themselves so the terms can be different. I mainly use Amazon for Amazon warehouse items and just select items that come to £20 or more and choose the free shipping. Probably 99% of my purchases are made that way.

Yes it does to me anyway lol! I am not a prime member so I would just do a normal purchase, if that is possible! 😂

Okay is the Amazon free delivery normally slow then? It may be better that I just pay for shipping if it is a long delivery time! Thanks ☺️

I use EBay and Amazon AliceBell64468 and like them both. I think it is just a matter of getting used to the checking out procedure. Once you choose an item to purchase, click on Buy It Now. Ignore the subscribe and save - that gives you a discount if you set up a regular, repeat order. Then choose the postage option that suits you best. It is exciting using your vouchers! Are you treating yourself?

Ah right okay well I won’t need repeat so I will just do it normal. You do make it sound a lot simpler than it looks! Yes exciting using vouchers, I am not using my main ones yet as I am saving them to put towards either the house or a child lol. This time round not so exciting, just using them to get a birthday present for my brother which will probably end up being some Armani aftershave!! Have you used your vouchers from here yet?

AliceBell64468 I spend them immediately as I’m always getting stuff from Amazon! With my last batch, I treated myself to a nice watch that was reduced. Not so exciting if your purchase is for someone else - but at least it is saving you money!

I know what you mean about it looking complicated at first but the other members have given good advice. Even ebay seem complicated on my first ever use - it's just that first transaction you need to get through and it is a breeze. I don't think Amazon always has the lowest prices but I like the fact that non-delivered purchases or other problems are dealt with really quickly. Always willing to help so PM me if needed.

Thank you, I just thought I may as well get used to using it so that I can use up some of my vouchers. Just planning on getting my brother some aftershave for his birthday but I want everything to work correctly when I spend my bigger vouchers on stuff for the house! Thank you x

Always check both mind because a lot of ebayers buy from amazon and sell on eBay I bought lego back in September came next day in prime box so contacted seller and had 6 pounds refunded price difference so worth checking

I think the issue maybe that like Ebay, Amazon is made up of loads of different sellers as well as Amazon selling themselves so it makes giving 1 simple price quite difficult

We use Amazon, but only when we know exactly what we need so it is easy to search for it. We have prime so get free and next day delivery in most things anyway. I find it easy to use as I've been using it for years.

Just ignore the subscribe options. Happy to help if you get stuck!

AliceBell64468 they normally do free prime for a certain time, so you could sign up for it when you know what you want to get, get the free delivery and then cancel it if you don't want to continue it x

Well let me give you some help.

Amazon is quite complicated to navigate compared to ebay but then again ebay have made things harder over the time as well - ever tried to find your wish lists in ebay - used to be easy not anymore!

Getting diddled on ebay is easier too but I have been shafted twice on Amazon - Amazon and ebay are terrible for us sellers they make it so difficult but Amazon and their 123 program makes it even harder to make a crust so try and empathise a bit with us sellers!

Ebay is the cheapest without a doubt but you do know there are other FREE bidding sites other than ebay?

I can guarantee you for every Amazon deal on here you can just plonk the search into ebay then sort by price and you will find it cheaper 101% every time.,

Problem for me like yourself is I have accumulated over £850 in Amazon vouchers from those same surveys, shopping scanners and my numerous techniques for grabbing free cash so I am forced to opt for Amazon by default.,

Amazon have the most dishonest sorting system and intrusive advertising whereas with ebay you just click the sort by price and hey presto but Amazon you will get insertions all over the place with different prices or not including postage etc which makes it hard to find the cheapest price sometimes having to click through 30 or more pages to get to the end.

Ebay does have a far higher amount of fiddle diddlers however and many auctions are a con but Amazon has the same - there are loads of groups on facebook doing false reviews for free products - i know my girlfriend is a top member but she only leaves positive reviews if the item is actually a good one - she just got a £150 Vantrue car dashcam for free but its excellent so the positive review they asked for is legit in this case but there are so many fiddle diddlers on Amazon its almost as bad as the shills on IMDB!

Also remember to visit TOPCASHBACK before you go to AMAZON as they are giving Cashback at last for Amazon purchases whereas you can get NECTAR points for shopping on ebay!

Hope that helps!

Wow yes some great tips there, especially looking out for the deals on topcashback also! Yes I am wary of some of the reviews on Amazon, whereas I feel the eBay feedback is more reliable and honest. I also like the buying and selling protection you have through eBay and PayPal. Thank you for your advice 🤗

Amazon can't sort by price, you're right. But eBay is messed up even more by the sellers with multiple items under one listing, with one being very low priced and often irrelevant to the others. It skews results so badly that sorting by price is useless. Very annoying.

MeestairChrees True but its a tactic so i found out - they advertise the cheapest item in their multi listing then the one you want is like 10 times the price so someone suggested giving them the shaft by buying 100 items at the 0.01p price lol I did it a few times but what they will do is not send it then you have to claim a refund for not received so you cannot win!

Led light bulbs are the worst imho

Meestairchrees - that isnt taken from a FISTFUL OF DOLLARS is it?

Been racking my brain i remember the quote Meester Chrees from some movie?

Meester Russell. Meester Chrees...he ees dead

garygemmell I had one recently list "please select" as an option to buy at a very low price, so I bought it and told them which option I wanted as a message. They dispatched (apparently), then changed the listing so it was unavailable and couldn't be exploited again. Never arrived though, and oddly, they disappeared off ebay - closed their account, and they were a big seller too. No idea why.

Set up an account, add your vouchers and spend. I did subscribe to PRIME but cancelled it recently as I don’t order enough to get the benefit of free postage.

AliceBell64468 I used to use ebay a lot and was initially worried about Amazon (years ago). But I'm now the opposite. I hardly use ebay and use Amazon daily now. It's easy to use the basics, but yes, there are features that complicate things - ignore them to begin with if you like.

I prefer amazon to ebay, mainly because amazon’s customer service has always been helpful and responsive, whereas its severely lacking on eBay. I know a lot of people who have been conned by eBay, and eBay do nothing about it. I‘ve not been conned, but I’ve had appalling eBay service. Hence I never use eBay

I'm with you on this one. I've had excellent advice on ebay with problems from other users in the forum but absolutely no help from the site, itself. I've also known quite a few people who have been conned as a buyer and scammed as a seller.

It is good to hear they offer good customer service as you probably end up needing it at some point. I’m surprised to hear that about eBay as I have always received good customer service with them also when I have had to complain! I guess it must be hit and miss.

AliceBell64468 My problem was caused by a very savvy seller who kept putting back the delivery date time and again so that my complaint became overdue and the case closed by ebay.(even though ebay were aware of my messages, chasing the seller) It was for an expensive item and the site just ignored my problem. If it hadn't been for the bunch of helpful members on the forum I wouldn't have had a clue how to deal with it.

angemski same here. Ebay rarely lifts a finger to help, so I’d rather not put myself in harms way. If the product is a couple a quid pricier elsewhere, I’d buy it elsewhere. I won’t be feeding the greedy eBay machine

AliceBell64468 I guess you couldn’t fault them until you actually have a bad experience with them. I only joined them years ago after people raved about how good they were. But it wasn’t long before they turned really, really bad, and I had an issue where they practically just gave me copy and paste responses. I tried different ways to get hold of someone sensible on eBay but they didn’t exist. And so I waved goodbye to them and vowed never to support them, so I’m more than happy to shop elsewhere
