Have You Been Using Zoom or Skype?
Ask a Question
Wondering if others have been using Zoom or other ways of online video during the past few months and what their opinions and experiences are.
I have been involved in a few Zoom meetings and think it's here to stay, although for a one to one conversation telephone seems less confusing.
I thought that I had you on mute?
How have you popped up again?
Besides that, I do use Skype to talk to my sister in the USA.
That's not much of an answer, you don't seem to have passed any opinion or what your experiences are. (Not that I miss your opinions)
I used Zoom twice (with two different people) during lockdown and I found it was terrible, the connection kept going and it wasn’t clear at all.. I regularly use FaceTime, WhatsApp video calls and Facebook messenger video calls on the same wifi with no issues!
I suspect that sometimes it isn't always Zoom at fault but the computer, microphone and camera of the user. I've noticed that on three occasions it has been the same person who has had problems - it could even be that their broadband speed is insufficient,
Ive used zoom and google chats.
Just setup google hang out meeting with speech therapy with my son this morning
I've been using both but I've found Zoom a bit hit and miss. It often froze and the conversation then had to switch to another option. Skype/Whatsapp are usually reliable for me
Used both for various meetings both have their uses . Although we seem to be moving to Microsoft Teams now so not sure how that's going to go.
I have been using video conferencing professionally for years as I have worked for global companies in London. It's nothing new for me.
Personally, I have seen, since the Lockdown, more people taking to Video conferencing to keep in touch with families and friends. It's probably one of the many positives to come out of the pandemic. Obviously, with the momentum of 'working from home', another positive will be when smaller companies more readily adopt this too. The larger companies, once again, have adopted a balanced 'work from home' policy for years. It makes so much sense.
Xx
It does make good sense that companies are using it, the way TV broadcasters have been using it recently has improved many programmes. I'm never sure whether it's Zoom, Skype or some other system they're using.
It's my opinion that with Zoom, on conference meetings with several participants,.it needs someone more technology savvy to do the hosting.
davidstockport In fairness I have found Zoom and Microsoft teams to be very intuitive and fairly easy to use. Xx
I haven't hosted a conference meeting, the one who did on Monday, who worked in IT until retirement, was probably tired (it was chaos) he'd perhaps been at the local brewery trying to organise a Christmas party
We previously used zoom in work, however now using Microsoft Teams, better quality and easier to use. For us it’s here to stay now as will be working from home mostly and only going into office the odd day.
mazza2112 I should imagine that for many who in the past had long commutes to work. it not only will save money but effectively shorten their working day.
I spent the last twenty years of my working life working from home, it was such a relief as previously I probably spent more time driving than actually working.
i have used both zoom and skype multiple times. this has been for all aspects of my work!! it has been brilliant
We use Microsoft Teams as it's part of our corporate MS office license and installed/deployed to all by default on all our devices. Pretty good tool that has replaced Skype for us. We're slowly removing Skype from our estate
