Its not what we think , it's what they can legally do .

They can legally require a new applicant to have the jab , but they can't (currently ) force existing staff to have it . That applies to all industries .

Should they have it ? Of course , for their safety and those they care for . It will be an ongoing education program for the employers to persuade their staff to have the jab . Its a "caring" profession so maybe as the facts are fully explained it should be possible .

Golfforall its not what was said this morning I have mixed feelings on it only because this people have worked in the care home without a vaccine putting themselves at risk to be told doesn't matter if you don't have it you can lose your jobs thinks its a insult for them people

Leannexxx That's new ! Who said that , where ? As its currently illegal to require anyone in any industry to be vaccinated .

Maybe you misheard or perhaps they said persuade ? Or perhaps like I have just heard all care workers "should" have the vaccination but it is not mandatory ?

Leannexxx They have had the discussion on 5 Live just now . The vaccination is NOT mandatory for care home staff . It would require legislation to require mandatory vaccination for existing care home staff and that would be a very lengthy process . So no need to jump too far ahead at the moment hopefully persuasion and education will do the job .

Leannexxx Well nobody is going to lose their job in the near future and lets hope education persuades the remainder of the staff (up to 30% of staff ) to have the jab for their own safety , not to mention their patients .

It will be interesting to see what they do as currently the flu jab is

"Refusing to be vaccinated

It’s important that as many health and social care workers as possible get the vaccine – it protects you, your family, and the people you care for from the flu – but if you don’t want to have the vaccine for whatever reason, you don’t have to have it"

and this is going to become like the flu one everyone who wants the vaccination has had the vaccination.
