Do some IOU vouchers. Put things on them like, have a candlelit dinner, or share a bath, they can be as romantic or as raunchy as you want. Each one can only be used once and you can't make up an excuse to get out of whatever it says.

This sort of idea/gift is a good thing for anyone who is strapped for cash. It is especially good for elderly folk who may have everything they need but lack someone to help them out with various things like appointments, diy, outings, company. Get a notebook and write something on each page that a person may like you to do for them, and you are willing to do. E.g. Clean skirting boards, now the lawn, clean the windows, take for a picnic, to the cinema, visit with cakes and spend time having an afternoon tea. So many things single or older people would like to do but can't without help or company.

Give them the book and they can tear out a page for you to honour the pledge when able.

Make a nice meal with whatever you have in the freezer. You could make a cake? Then offer a massage.

Perhaps make something, whether it’s a little scrapbook of some of your favourite photos and memories or bake your partners favourite sweet treat

If you do this, I think Boots still has their deal on for photos - something like 50 photos for 99p?

Send him TWO cards, one obviously from yourself the other written by someone whose writing he doesn't recognise, then you'll have a good excuse for not giving him anything.

Me and my husband don't do Valentine's Day. Our thoughts are why wait for just one day a year to show affection. That's just our view point. If my husband came home with flowers I'd be suspicious, we do romance, but it's the little things like him fixing a puncture in my bike and me taping the football for him when he doesn't know it's on

I feel like you. We don’t need a so called day to appreciate each other and say I love you. A kind loving gesture means far more than extravagant gifts so I’m sure your husband will understand your limited funds. Money doesn’t buy love or happiness just makes life more bearable.

@ris Furthermore if "money is tight" it should be "tight" for both partners in a good marriage.

Just some special time together doesn't have to cost money. How about a nice long walk, maybe pop a bottle of wine in the fridge before you go out if you have one, and then cosy up and watch a romantic film together. Oh and don't forget to remind him how much you love him 💕 . Whatever you do or don't do you'll still be together and that should always be special 🙂

Home bargains do some great valentines bits and bobs cheap. Rose petals for the bed, heart confetti for the bath, little heart stickers you can write on to leave around the house, heart fairy lights. Doesnt cost much and can always keep the extras for birthdays and anniversarys.

I always think its more about the time spent together than how much you spend. I'm not bothered if I even got a card really. I would rather spend quality time alone talking and just enjoying each others company. If you can cook, how bout cooking up his favorite meal?

Things are tight with me too, so I am making a card doing a 3 course meal, garlic mushrooms on toast, Mustard chicken, and strawberry cheese cake and I won a bottle of wine at New year

It's the things you do that count

We don't tend to celebrate it, it's just another day for us, we have all year round to spoil each other.

What about a movie night? Snuggle up on the sofa with some snacks and a good film.
