The Value of the Rolex
Ask a Question
I’m not a fan of watches, but I'm aware of the value of the Rolex and how a lot of people marvel at the workmanship behind it
Do you own one? And would you recommend getting one as an investment piece?
I don't own one and I don't want one. A discreet Patek Philippe? Yes please!
Common Rolexes are a poor investment. You need to buy vintage, rare, and historic watches to make a profit in 10 to 20 years. As an investment it's all about scarcity and condition. But wearing a Rolex could be a fatal mistake. Not only could you damage it - reducing its value, people get stabbed for their Rolex!

Thanks. Saw a guide for novice watch investors in a bookshop today and I found it intriguing as I never thought about investing in them. They’re so expensive to start with in any case
I guess this comes under my recent topic about materialism. I for one would find no extra joy in life by wearing a Rolex watch. I just want something rather nice looking that keeps good time. I do have a rather expensive one but it was a 50th birthday present from both my sons and I treasure it for that reason.
If I wore a Rolex life would be more stressful as I would worry about being mugged!
It is definitely materialistic, but I know someone who buys the, as investment pieces, and he seems to be doing well with it. Same with designer bags. But these kind of people know what they’re doing - not normal materialistic people (I’d anything they’re cashing in on normal materialistic people!). There was one time I was going to buy a collection of Louis Vuitton bags as I was going to try it out....but then I re@alised I wouldn’t have a clue how to resell, nor did I want the hassle
I dont get the big hype in them tbh. A watch is a watch and you can pick then up cheap enough. Theres no way id spend that kind of money on a watch. I think the people that do wear them have way too much money or want to show off
Definitely to show off, and perhaps to find a lifestyle where they seem to have everything but know the value of nothing
