Vegetable Crisps

Ask a Question

Do you like vegetable crisps, and consider it a good alternative to potato crisps?

I‘m not really a fan, and tbh I think it’s a terrible way to make something healthy unhealthy. And they cost more than the potato varieties too

Yes, I really like them, especially beetroot crisps. I see them as a tasty snack rather than something healthy 😋

Lol very true. I like the Kettle and more crisps where they’ve mixed up potato crisps with vegetable crisps, and beetroot is one of the varieties. I quite like it, but the pack is smaller than the normal Kettle crisps, so I always feel as if I’ve lost out when I get to the bottom of the bag too quickly

Technically, all crisps are vegetable crisps. Potato is after all a vegetable. 😆

So therefore, crisps must be good for you. 🙂

My mum loves vegetable crisps but the ones i‘ve tried have all been disgusting! The actual flavour of the vegetables is horrible... and i agree they are so expensive

That’s so true. The root veg ones I’ve tried seem so oily, and the salt seems to have crystallised on the edges, so you get that uneven, icky salty taste. Not as enjoyable as standard crisps

How is it making a healthy thing unhealthy? I thought they were generally just dried, with nothing bad added to them? Potato crisps excluded of course (though they're also vegetables).

If you ever buy a pack and read the added ingredients, then you’ll know - Reading the amount of added salt alone makes my blood pressure go high 😝 But I reckon the ones you make yourself is indeed not as bad

hspexy I'll have to look out for that. I'm sure I've had some though that were just dried veg with no additives.

MeestairChrees there probably are, usually the ones that are made by more independent brands, like the ones often stocked in but the mainstream ones, as well as supermarket own ones, are treated as per standard crisps. It’s like how a lot of mainstream vegan food is unhealthy, because manufacturers actually season it more to get the taste more appetising

I quite like some of the other vegetable options but there are also varieties that are tasteless. I bought a dehydrator last year and once you've tried sweet tomato slices or slabs of watermelon everything seems a bit bland. (was trying for a healthier option but they are too moreish 😆 )

They're better but they're still crisps. But yeah, I've tried it but it's not for me, I prefer crisps with jamón flavor (which are suitable for vegans).

I rarely buy Ruffles' brand 'cause they cost almost €2 but there are times when it's on offer for €0.70~0.99 if willing to wait. The cheap brands are really good too.

Do you like bacon flavour crisps/snacks in general? If so, I used to buy the ones in Lidl and Aldi, and they were ok. Quite cheap

They are absolutely amazing. Yet they are not a healthy alternative to crisps. I find them more oily and salty that most crisps, that is why they are amazing.

I like them, but I think they not much better. Some of them feels very oily....

They should air dry them, than it would taste different.

The biggest problem with them that they cost double than the normal crisp.

I have stopped eating crisps. Doh! Due to my super healthy wellness kick. Trying to cut out most saturated fats. Unfortunately crisps - whatever variety - fall into this category. I may have to have a food funeral. Feel my pain... Xx

I tend to go for baked pea snacks now. I love the sweet chilli flavour. And they are better in regards to fat and sat fat. (I'm on a diet) Image
