Vegetarian Christmas Dinner?
Ask a Question
I turned vegetarian at the very start of the year but the only this is I don't really like vegetables. I have like pizza, pasta, macaroni etc. Is there any vegetarians out here? What do you have for Christmas Dinner? I usually would have chicken but I guess I'll just have the usual dinner just without the chicken..
I became a vegetarian in 2013, and mainly in the UK, there are thousands of vegetarian options. I don't think even a vegan eats vegetables only.
Taking some examples from https://www.cookfood.net/ for Christmas dinner:
Portobello Mushroom Wellington
Nut Loaf
Butternut Squash & Red Onion Galette
French Onion Tart
Baked Camembert with Port & Red Onion Chutney
Brie & Cranberry Souffles
Roasted Pepper and Goat's Cheese Quiche
Sensational Veggie Rolls
Goat's Cheese & Pesto Whirls
I hope it helps!
marty66 as a vegetarian there will be dozens of ready made options in all the major supermarkets... Do you belong to any Facebook groups or look at vegetarian society website etc?
What a great post and some lovely images. I'm not a vegetarian instead a guilty meat eater who is not really comfortable being a meat eater.
I am not vegetarian M but try to eat healthily
I have tried nut roast at christmas and loved it
But you really must try to eat vegetables if you can , you are missing out on so many nutrients if you dont
Try sweeter if you must, sweet peas, buttersquash , sweet potato , theres so many tasty vegetables, but i eat any myself
Doesn't sound like a healthy diet! A vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables.
Do you eat fish? My granddaughter doesn't eat meat but does eat fish so if I do a roast dinner for her she has a salmon en croute or nut roast, so there are alternatives.
Some people think that a vegetarian/vegan eat raw vegetables as a meal
As I showed above, you can have delicious vegetarian meals. Vegans are much more limited because of the milk/butter/eggs, etc., but a vegetarian has an easy life.
kikogpe yes, my granddaughter started off as a vegan but found it far too hard to maintain, me too when cooking for her! I was pulling my hair out as so many seemingly meat free products had some sort of animal product in them.
Although I am not vegetarian I eat very little meat these days as I enjoy omelette, quiche, cheese and onion rolls etc but of course none of those could be eaten by a vegan.
Lynibis actually now there are sub's for everything, lots of vegan c& o pastors or rolls around, and you can get easy egg and make s lovely omelette, there is a nice new quiche by Higgedy which I treated myself to recently
telmel where do you shop? It was difficult a few years back but now there is so much choice everywhere I just stare in amazement the odd time I go out shopping
Sarahvwomble That's correct Sarah - but a word of warning to dyslexics: Don't confuse Gelatine with Gelagnite (easily done) Someone who did blew the door off her oven.
Assuming they can get the products to the shops, there is more choice for vegetarian and vegan options than ever before which can only be a good thing. I spent many years as a vegetarian and how returned to it the last three years - and it a lot easier now! Couldn't quite go vegan, (and have no desire to) but have plenty of vegan meals. Looking forward to Christmas and the new options available.
Its a breeze now isn't it? Even as vegan, when I was growing up as a veggie it was a terrible problem, and nothing in restaurant!
We used to have a Quorn roast at Christmas, before the recipe changed to be more onion-y. Has a similar texture to meat, so was a good replacement.
I used to be a vegetarian but like you did not eat vegetables. My diet back then was very limited. Even now although eat meat still not keen on vegetables. My Christmas dinner is usually a jacket potato with cheese and stuffing balls.
If you take a look at the myriad of cooking websites you are sure to find something, why not try Delia Smith https://www.deliaonline.com/search?s=vegetarian
I had a vegan beef wellington one year and a nut roast another, which were both really nice, but usually I have a roast dinner with vegan chicken.
Always remembered a school teacher going on and on about what on earth do you have for Christmas dinner, looking at us as if we were murderers,...when of course the opposite is true....
The food you like sounds like my vegetarian diet. Give the veg chance, I ended up a celiac by living on pasta and cereal and bread. Now I have to eat meat and veg as my diet is so restricted. My dream vegetarian Christmas dinner would a macaroni and quorn bacon pizza and cake.
Definitely worth having a look at all of the different vegan and vegetarian options in supermarkets as it gets closer to Christmas - there are so many options
i love a good quorn roast on Christmas so yummy and is similar to a typical dinner so theres no missing out
You could make or buy a vegetarian pie to go with your veggies. Pieminster often have a festive vegetarian pie. For example, in the past they've produced, Christingle - a honey roast parsnip, chestnut, cheddar & leek pie.
