Your Favourite Veggie Meat?

Ask a Question

Which one is your favorite? The range is so big now but for me the best thing I have tried is the meatless farm mince with spaghetti bolognese, so tasty. They are on shopmium atm cheaper if you have the chance. Also I love quorn spinach slices.

I tried a meatless veg burger from Sainsbury's yesterday..it was their own brand. It was made with pea flour, rice, sweetcorn, kidney beans, peas and other things. It was so nice.. obviously not as good as a meat burger but none the less a good alternative when you want to mix up your diet 😉

there are none that are like real meat, and tbh I’m not sure why they would want to imitate meat if they’re planning to eat cleaner

Its always seemed really weird to me that vegetarians even want to eat meat substitutes.I mean, why?.

Like

laraquinn because they may want the taste without the environmental impact that meat has or without having to kill animals. I don’t get why that’s a difficult concept to grasp.

lornaae Surely the whole point of being vegetarian is not to eat meat at all, real or meatless. Not a difficult concept to grasp, right?.

laraquinn I agree. If anyone chooses to eat imitation meat, then they’re not truly understanding the processes involved. If you’re choosing to be vegetarian or vegan, stick with the vegetables

laraquinn hspexy not at all. The reason for many people being vegetarian or vegan isn't purely because they don't like meat but they disagree with killing and eating animals. So maybe they like the taste/texture and are happy to be able to have a replica without any need for animals being used/killed in the process.

lornaae The environmental impact is still a discussion as opposed to being a confirmed problem. There are arguments for and against with livestock harming the environment but actually benefitting it too.

That's easy, because many people like the taste of meat but don't want to have animals go through the horrors of being killed in abattoirs so are looking for alternative products to eat. There are also health and environmental reasons to do so. Vegetarians live longer lives and often with less health issues as they age. Vegetarians live 6 to 9 years longer than non-vegetarians but the evidence is unclear as vegetarians also drink less, smoke less and exercise more.

Dennab just watch David Attenborough‘s new film for evidence that animal consumption negatively impacts the environment

lornaae Fair comment.I do trust that man, admittedly! I just want to eat meat and trying to find a reason to do so. There is an argument that grazing of cows etc actually helps the soil but in all honesty, that's where my knowledge ends and Attenborough would win in any argument. He mentions about climate change contributing to the spread of viruses too. Somebody called me stupid (or words to that affect) on here for pointing that out!

Dennab yeah he knows what he's talking about. This is a good read https://www.onegreenplanet.org/environment/david-attenborough-urges-people-to-cut-down-on-meat-in-new-documentary/. If everyone just cut down their meat and dairy consumption it would make a big difference.

I think the best vegetarian meat product I've had was the vegetarian sausage at Wetherspoons. I think they are Quorn but don't taste like the Quorn sausages you get at supermarkets, maybe a slightly different formulation. Very nice though and I actually prefer the vegetarian breakfast to the normal breakfast.

I like vegan food, but other than crisps I don't like products that try to mimic the taste of meat or fish. Although, there must be enough demand, as the first permanent Vegan Butcher shop is opening in Islington on the 1st November - https://www.instagram.com/p/CGe4lERJWMk/

I am a meat eater although as with most meat eaters they also eat vegetables, I even grow my own.

You have made my laugh though - quorn spinach slices?! why not just eat spinach?? Do vegetarians even replace the vegetables with quorn now?

tumblespots it's not just slices of spinach, they're spinach and red pepper slices - like replica lunchmeat slices https://www.quorn.co.uk/products/quorn-spinach-and-red-pepper-slices

I eat the food I like the taste and texture of ... and that does me good ... regardless of whether it's meat or veggie ... I love Tesco's own cauliflower and cheeseburger thingummies and we often have them for a quick lunch with baked beans. I would like to say I'd become vegetarian to be able to eat without the environmental impact that meat has or without having to kill animals but it's not that straight forward is it? ... I can see me doing it eventually. In the meantime, we eat far less meat than we used to ... maybe 3 or 4 meals each week and those are packed out with lentils/beans and extra veg.

Of course it's straight forward BORDERJOE ! I've been a Vegetarian too long to remember now, one day I just realised that I loved animals too much to eat them and that was it, I guess it depends where your priorities lie! x

Quorn mince is quite nice to use in cheesy nachos. Mushroom protein. I mix Doritos hot salsa with Sainsbury's hot salsa as the Sainsbury's one is abit milder.

You've probably eaten a few flies or other insects in your sleep. The air is also full of small creatures, bacteria, viruses and when you drink water there is likely many animals in there like water bears which will be digested by your stomach acid etc. Also many cosmetics are meat products. Face creams typically use a lot of animal products unless you choose the cruelty free type which you probably do but its surprising how many vegans and vegetarians use less obvious meat products by mistake. Many face creams you are literally smearing on bits of blood, liver, meat and other animal bits onto your face as they are proven to have a short term younger look to your skin.

BonzoBanana true no slices of meat but as a kid no ingredients labelling, when it was brought in in 1980? Shocked to find cake biscuits cheese etc full of animal fats and bits!

We are pretty much vegetarian now though with a chicken loving son so have to buy meat for him. I was never a fan of eating meat so dont bother too much with vegan meals pretending to be meat but its nice to have a choice. The Wicked Kitchen range from Tesco offers some great meals which I really like. The days when vegetarians got bland meals has long gone. Vegie sausages can be hit and miss - Linda MCartney ones are just dry and tasteless but had some Tesco ones recently and they were great.

Iceland have started a not bad range. My self and kids aren't vegetarian, but we do like some of vegetarian products. What I don't fully understand is that they say eat plant based to save planet, but if we all do that, then more agriculture going to be needed to grow all the plants we eat. So how is that better for planet, cut down more trees to make space for more farm land to grow all the plants we want to eat. I'm getting this wrong.

No meat, chunks if Aubergine broccoli and peas 😋

It was lovely and there was bo craving for the meat.

I do eat meat though but we have started getting OddBox to introduce new vegetables and different flavours
