Vent or Condenser Tumble Dryer?

Ask a Question

We are going to be rearranging / doing up our utility room. It will involve moving the tumble dryer.

We currently have a vented one, and would need to move the vent if keeping it.

Any recommendations on whether to stick with a vented one, or change to a condenser one?

Imnotcheap good to know it's cooler and dryer in the room! I find I always need to have the window slightly open at the minute!

FG280 I used to have a vented one and got fed up of having to stretch to open the window for the hose so bought one of these, you empty the container as you would on a condenser one. I now have a condenser one (different home situation), both worked fine. Image

Ooooh I have never seen these before! Might be a good idea to start with, then decide which to change to!

Imnotcheap It was a cheap solution at the time and worked ok, my problem was I kept forgetting to empty it and then the floor got wet 😞

I have always had a condenser, as I have never lived anywhere it could be vented. I have never had any issues, just have to empty the water, regularly

Our tumble dryer has the hose fixed to an outside wall, it works perfectly for us.

Pjran our hose is fixed to the outside wall at the minute too. When we change things around, it will be at the other side of the room, so trying to decide whether to put in a new vent at the other part of the wall, or just go condenser 🤔

We had no choice when our tumble drier died a couple of months ago as it was a compact one as space was limited - and although we had a vent outlet ready and waiting - there were no driers available that could use it. We ended up having to use the hose out from the front. Luckily its right next to the back door and a very handy cat flap which now doubles up as a hose outlet. Not ideal but it works

Tried both, and both have good and bad things.Condenser needs to be emptied but was faster, vented one dried my clothes better but was slower , no need to empty but the performance in my opinion depends on the brand not exactly the ventilation system.

I have always felt that vented driers are the old fashioned versions and used to have one back in the day. I know you can have them permanently vented but I had one that the hose hung out of window. In winter it was freezing and it had to be near a window, mine was in the bedroom with a pretty cloth draped over so served as a bedside table too!

Anyway since then have always had condenser and would never take a step backwards.

I have a heat pump tumble dryer.

Using a closed-loop heat exchange system, heat pump tumble dryers dry clothes at a lower temperature, keeping energy usage low and providing better protection for your laundry. While both condenser dryers and vented tumble dryers release the hot air used to dry clothes, heat pump technology conserves and reuses it.

They are more expensive to buy but your costs are less in the long term.
