VIP Auction

Feedback

I was browsing VIP Auction site earlier after seeing a report on MSN on it, the next thing I knew £30 had been taken from my PayPal account, I didn't even press accept or anything. I contacted the company and they said they would refund £10 only as the rest was administration fees. Opened a PayPal case but looking at review pages since it seems PayPal don't refund on this site. So avoid like the plague

That sounds nasty I'm NOT going to that site to check it out* (I suggest others don't either) you might consider reporting it https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/reporting-fraud-and-cyber-crime

I will assume you gave them your email address for them to have accessed your PayPal account.

May I ask was it the kind of site that wanted a quick response?- Usually a clock ticking backwards. If ever

you see things that are not giving you chance to consider things carefully they're always scam sites.

*I did check VIP auction review - and it got ONE STAR out of five - they get ONE star because people can't give them NONE - It screams out SCAM!

I didn't give them my email address so only presuming it was due to my account being linked via Google. However they managed it they have done exactly the same thing to thousands of others who haven't joined or given an email address either so clever logarithm they've used, there wasn't even a confirm purchase option via PayPal again similar to previous people.

PayPal as predicted closed my case unsuccessfully so I called and spent nearly an hour giving them all the information and evidence but I don't hold out any hope.

There was no ticking clock or anything, I only visited the home screen and that is when it happened. I know the majority of these sites are scams and the only reason I looked was because of the MSN report and I was curious (and killing time) I didn't expect to be charged for something I hadn't even signed up to, I had no welcome email from the site so didn't inadvertently click anything.

Thank you for the link, I am going to report them

eliseclarkin This MIGHT help - if, like mine, your PayPal account balance is automatically paid by a credit card. Your credit card provider MIGHT possibly refund the amount you've been swindled out of.

These scammers are usually in countries too far away for our fraud services to show any interest.

I know this is too late but it is advisable to not use the same email address for any banks or financial transactions and other things on the internet, fortunately that is what I do. Someone tried to hack into my email account the other day (they wouldn't have got anything if they had). As the attempted hack was through a proxy IP address (via Austria) it has been taken very seriously (I can't say

why) and apparently those investigating are applying with a subpoema for details from the ISP - I'm not too savvy on that kind of thing but they seem to know what they're doing.😀

There are so many scams and attempted hacks online that except, in certain cases, the authorities are not able to do much,

I hope you get things sorted out. Best wishes

davidstockport thank you. It is linked to my debit card so not covered that way unfortunately. None of my emails are linked to my bank but it is to my PayPal (didn't even think of that).

Really appreciate you're help, thank you

eliseclarkin Wow youy were quick Elise!

Trustpilot should ban them from any good reviews!

Avoid

Browsing the site and the next thing £30 had gone out of my account and they refuse to refund the total amount, I hadn't even joined. PayPal have said there is no claim as it was authorised? Seriously? Not be me, why would I pay for something I am not signed up to? Avoid like the plague

Lydskyd sorry don't get what you mean?

Seen some good reviews on various sites but a quick search proves they aren't genuine

Lydskyd It isn't usually TrustPilot where the good reviews are. Are we to understand that they created a PayPal account for you - then tried to charge you through it?

If so (which I don't doubt) it's a new one to me. (I'll check it out).

It's a long time since I joined PayPal and can't recall the joining up procedure. I can't say with certainty but thought I had to provide debit or credit card details or bank details

That's what happens they create many sites with good reviews, they then search them numerous times to take them to the top of searches- you usually have to go much further down the list to find the genuine ones - a good way to find the genuine ones is to add the word SCAM to your search.

Also if you search the terms and conditions you might find something on one of the last pages - after hours of reading "in very small print" something that sometimes lets them get away with the scam. They're very cunning.

ELISE - A thing I failed to mention is that many of this type of scam things are recurring - so ENSURE you

tell PayPal that you do not authorise any future payment to VIPAuction.

I checked out TrustPilot reviews and many have stated they were charged again the following month. Almost all the GOOD reviews are from first time reviewers that is often a good way to spot fake reviews.
