Virgin Media Data Breach Affects 900,000 People

In the News

A Virgin Media database containing the personal details of 900,000 people was left unsecured and accessible online for 10 months, the company has admitted.

The information was accessed "on at least one occasion" by an unknown user.

The database, which was for marketing purposes, contained phone numbers, home and email addresses.

It did not include passwords or financial details.

I had an email to say that my details were captured so I may be at risk for phishing attempts. Brilliant! πŸ™„

I'm sorry to hear that. It's not funny to have your information hacked, I hope they do resolve it for you without any hassle. πŸ’ 🐞

I hardly ever answer the phone anyway so people usually have to leave a message, if they are fraudulent, of course, they don't leave one! I hope you call wasn't one of those. 🐞

Yes I got this email and although it is an unfortunate fact of modern life, I am cross that this happened in April 2019 and we are only just hearing about it.

Eleven months is a long time to keep this information to themselves, it's a shame that they couldn't keep your details to themselves too! I hope nothing detrimental happens to you because of either the breach or the time delay! πŸ’ 🐞

I was also shocked when I seen the date! I did have numerous calls a few months ago trying to recontract me with Virgin when I was already with them, this was probably down to the details being hacked.

AliceBell64468 Sounds like it, I hope it hasn't made you 'out of pocket'. It is a worrying time when you know someone you don't know has your details but I am sure you have changed your password many times since then. 🐞
