Virgin Media and O2 Join Forces to Take on BT

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52570593

Mobile operator O2 and broadband giant Virgin Media are to merge, creating one of the UK's largest entertainment and telecoms firms and a major rival to BT.

Hopefully this merger means better deals for customers, certainly keeping the companies competitive

Not sure. Sometimes they get too big and put the smaller ones out of business. They then have the monopoly and are not any cheaper.

Yeah, I'm not sure this is going to be a good thing for customers long term.

Yes, that was the exact reason why they didn’t allow o2 and 3 to do a merger a few years back, but obviously they don’t perceive virgin media to be big enough to be a threat

not happy with virgin media recently, as they have had service drop outs with no explanation. Knowing this merger, it might have something to do with o2 - their services are ropey around here

I’m definitely not a fan of o2 for the reasons you’ve mentioned. I thought virgin used EE?

hspexy Yes but they recently announced a move to Vodafone. I wonder if that will be affected by this merger.

hspexy as mentioned, I suspect the merger means changes, which is annoying as EE works better for where I am

I am with Virgin media for my broadband and TV and with O2 for my mobile contract, they are both quite expensive and poor customer service. I wonder if this means an improvement or worse things to come lol!
