My Vision of the Future

I find it strange that we are bombarded with advice to combat obesity but continue to make more and more calorie laden foods. It isn't enough to make a chocolate bar, in order to keep us buying they periodically introduce a new flavour which we feel compelled to try.
We are told to exercise more but continue to invent more and more gadgets to keep us immobile. Food delivered to your door, remote controls for chairs, tv, garage doors, gates...anything to avoid walking a few steps.
You get the idea? But what frightens me most is the onward march of technology which seems to put us all at risk from cloning, cyber fraud, lack of privacy etc.
I watched The Circle last night (Tom Hanks film) and it frightened the life out of me as it is so probable, let alone possible. Watch it and you will see what I mean, it's on Netflix.
I think we do need to look at the other side of this coin! We do have a choice on which 'time saving' gadgets to buy and use and many more opportunities to exercise and lead healthy life styles. We also need to exercise self restraint and be responsible for our own actions - even though it is difficult. Scientific developments in food production and security may well move our society towards the utopian dream of food for all and good health. The future isn't all bleak!
I agree but unfortunately even the most logical and intelligent people seem to suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out). It is now impossible to buy a tv with buttons on the actual tv and generations growing up now see all their friends with gadgets and want them too.
Don't misunderstand me, I am all for progress in, as you say, food production, medical advancement but I draw the line at having no area of my life being private. If you watch the film you will see what I am saying. The scarey part was that we are already on the way to it, it wasn't make believe.
I watched The Circle just after it came out and understand what you mean. If you haven't seen them watch 'Black Mirror' all one off episodes. although very good some are very disturbing too as you can imaging it happening for real.
I must admit I didn't enjoy The Circle, I found it one of Tom Hanks' less watchable films. But I watched it to see the outcome. I hated the concept and could not understand how people seemed happy to buy into it!
This is from someone who has no problem with ID cards but draw the line at wearing gadgets so big brother can monitor your every move.
