What It Was like to Visit Carrefour in England

Other

It doesn't exist anymore in England, but there are videos where people recorded what the experience was like:

We have big Sainsbury's and Asda stores, but Carrefour sure was something else. Now, if you want to visit a Carrefour you'd need to go to Spain or France.

I went in the Carrefour store in Cribbs Causeway in the 90s? Don't remember it being very good and also it was expensive, I suspect when I went it was already failing and loss making just before the withdrawal from the UK market, it had that vibe about it. I'm not really a fan of French food though and don't drink wine. So I've never really been focused on any French food. I don't think I've ever been to a proper French Restaurant in my life and most of the meals I have tried I've either not liked or been indifferent to. I do like some of the French sweet pastries but still prefer British or maybe Danish pastries. I think it became a Asda/Walmart store before then becoming just a Asda store. I've not been to Cribbs Causeway for years.

I have visited many Carrefour Hypermarkets when I was visiting France & enjoyed them. We had one In Wales growing up but It was a distance from where I was at so I never visited.

I spent many summers in france when i was a kid and i loved going into all their supermarkets to buy all the unusual items. Unfortunately nowadays when you go over to europe, most of the products in the supermarkets are the same as we have here now

We used to have one about 15 miles away Carrefour Caerphilly and visit occasionally , the thing I remember most is the massive deli counter that they used to have , a big oval counter that you could walk all the way around looking at the meats, chesses, pies , and all the strange continental things that we didn't see that often or take for granted in the late 70's. They were big exciting stores in their day selling everything, but back then store such as Tesco were only small by today's standard and still on the high streets.
