I Vow to Thee My Country, Ramin Karimloo
Other
I have just listened to Ramin Karimloo singing this on YouTube and it brought me to tears.
You may know Ramin in his role of surgeon Kian Madani in Holby City but you may not know he is a professional singer with many credits and awards to his name, including Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis.
To listen to this rendition of I Vow to Thee My Country, brings home to me the state of not only our country but the world at large.
Opposite for me. I know him as a fabulous singer but I’ve never seen Holly so didn’t know he was doing regular acting. This is a great song
I was ignorant of his past career and not sure how I came to associate him with singing. I think it may have been seeing him do the Phantom of the Opera duet with Sarah Boggess on YouTube.
I knew this song from schooldays and it was lovely to reconnect with it, I will be asking Alexa to play it quite often I think!
This was always my favourite hymn at school and when it was a question on Pointless asking for words of 5 letters or more I found I could sing the whole hymn in my head. I got 3 pointless answers.
I defy anyone not to be moved by this rendition, patriotic and British, two things we seem to have become guilty about these days. Not to mention the R word which is not allowed on here!
Very beautiful, as you say a reminder of my childhood. We had 5' high song sheets so that all the assembly could sing along to wonderful songs such as this. (I had never heard of him!)
I had always liked him in Holby but now I am a big fan of his beautiful voice. There is a lovely video on YouTube of him and his young son singing Hallelujah.
Lynibis and the link is?? Don't worry I can look him up now that I am aware of him. Thanks for posting this, it is wonderful to reminisce, I loved primary school especially the singing.
Well a 15 year old would say that as they have not yet learned to appreciate the finer things in life. There was no need to comment was there?
Again, above comment has been edited, originally said 'boring' just the one word.
As I say, doesn't appeal to teens but plenty of young people enjoy non pop music. Just putting boring as a comment is not an opinion, it shows a lack of ..................
I will say no more because it makes me angry that young people do not understand the meaning behind those words. Did you not notice the poppies, it is in remembrance of all those who died in order for you to be free to express your opinion.
In case anyone is wondering, the person has edited their longer comment to one word, my reply was to the longer unedited version.
Lynibis thanks for that ...I was trying to follow the thread so appreciate it.... am about to head over to listen ....it's one of just 2 or 3 that always make me cry ... so loo roll at the ready ..... plus..... hear hear to what you said about remembrance ..... and also ... yes .... if it's not your thing then just skip over it ...whatever 'it' may be .... allow others their enjoyment!
Lynibis Don't let them/it bother you. Thank you for the original post, I'd not heard of this man before (no TV) and have spent the afternoon listening to YouTube. Have you listened to Alexander Armstrong sing?
Yes I have lilyflower and I know his albums have done very well.
You are right I shouldn't let it get to me. I just don't understand why immature folk do not understand that others like different things. I don't like rap but I would pass by any topics on it.
Glad you enjoyed.
I seem to recall hearing him on (telly) ... anyhow ...am now off to check him out too! Thanks lilyflower
Mr T and I are just watching a YouTube item showing all the personnel who gave their lives during the Falklands War and you'll never guess what song is playing in the background! Yes... I vow to thee my country. Very moving
Such an unnecessary conflict, almost laughable in the way it started were it not for the loss of life.
As we move toward more multi cultural nations patriotism appears to be waning and people are no longer sure of their identity and where they fit.
Lynibis Very true, where has patriotism gone.
We were only watching it because Mt T was there at the time.
It's been an emotional morning.
Thank you OP you have made me smile, what a beautiful rendition! I've had a love affair with Ramin since Les Mis/Phantom and haven't watched Holby in years so didn't know he was doing TV... May have to start watching it again
Ah, thank you for your lovely comment.
I must admit I stopped watching Holby when it was off air and haven't gone back to it so not sure if he is still in it. I saw that Connie Beauchamp is leaving on one of the morning shows recently.
