VW and SEAT are exactly the same brand, but SEAT is built in Portugal whereas VW is in Germany.

That said, Ibiza.

They are basically the same but I’d pick an ibiza as they are much better value and a bit sportier. Now, Lupo or Arosa?!

I used to work for Volkswagen. I used to drive the VW Polo R Line but I just sent it back.. 100% Volkswagen!! Seat is the same as built by the same company but they are cheaper, and you can tell the interiors have a cheaper feel to them. There is more warrantable problems on the Seats. VW are a lot more reliable and even the wear and tear items last so much longer than those in other vehicles.

That's true that SEAT is cheaper but have found that if the owner takes care of his (or her) car then it will be preserved. Allow a stranger in, and he might wreck it all.

I prefer Ibiza’s but I think they are usually more expensive... That said they hold their value better.. both reliable cars, I just prefer the body of the ibiza..

You do know they're both the same despite the brands?

Not exactly, some parts are but I was told by a mechanic that seat cheap out on some stuff and also vw use the same parts as audi. It might not be true but that's what I was told. My only experience is I've had 3 vws and all of them were very reliable never broke down etc my brother and my friend both had a seat and they broke a few times a year

I like SEAT,

Hopefully looking to purchase a Leon in the next few months, but my local Seat dealer is really hard work to try and deal with.

I would always go for VW over Seat, much more reliable cars and better build quality and nicer interiors.

They are both good cars, made well I'd be happy with either. Ive heard VWs are more expensive to repair

That's generally the case for most brands and then there's that 'expensive' can be subjective.

Neither are brands I'd consider nowadays, poor reliability and high maintenance costs but if you are going to buy a car from the VW group of companies then Skodas are definitely the most reliable but if reliability and low running costs are your priority then buy a Japanese brand.

This is the results from the reliability index which takes data purely from warranty claims so no bias or opinion purely data and no surveys that can be manipulated.

As ever the Japanese brands are pretty much at the top and the German brands pretty much at the bottom. This being a value forum and people trying to save money then surely a Japanese brand is worth considering or maybe a Korean model with a long included warranty.
