Waitrose Named Best Supermarket by Which?

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51586870

Waitrose is definitely one of my favourites for shopping experiences, and have a vast range, particularly when it comes to fancier produce, which you have to pay for

At least I can get a free drink out of them as much as I want

Don't take much notice of these surveys wasn't it "Which" that recently announced that Sainsbury's were the cheapest supermarket .

Regards of Waitrose we rarely shop there are they are just to expensive for normal everyday items. If your looking for something a bit special thou Waitrose is a good choice

Agreed. Which can’t be trusted. But overall I can’t say that Waitrose is a disappointing place to shop at. It’s only downfall is price, but even then the quality of their products are usually higher. It’s definitely not suited for my budget

My nearest supermarket is a Waitrose but I rarely go there unless it is for a couple of items I need in a hurry. I have a huge Sainsbury's and Tesco a a little further so do my main shopping there, why would I want to pay higher prices for the same stuff and far less selection.

I don't rate Which at all except their reliability survey is useful information but it doesn't factor in the repair costs so still poorly conceived, unless they have changed that now. Also with vacuum cleaners they never factored in the cost of the bags etc. Then I saw a picture of the their HQ and they all seemed to be driving high end German luxury cars which often are the complete opposite end of value and reliability. I use Waitrose for small shops often because they keep sending me vouchers and I get 5% back on my halifax credit card at times plus you get the free drink and paper. So you can do a £20 shop for £16 with a free paper, coffee and I keep to their special offers and short life reductions which means its an exceptionally cheap shop. They do, do some very high quality items and the staff are generally great.

However its hardly the best supermarket as they are expensive, I'm not sure how you rate the experience of shopping. I go to Lidls and Aldi and the experience is rubbish, often there are morons who can't even work out that their trolleys should be inline with the aisles but instead they block the aisle and there are huge queues at the till because the staff seem to have to flick between stocking shelves and serving customers plus you can't get all you want because there is a limited range and much of the food is terrible but what you do buy is normally great value so its saves you money which is the most important thing. As crap as they are I have more money left in my pocket so that is the overall best experience.

Tesco for me are the best shop, huge number of offers on branded goods, lots of generic low cost food which are now with pretty labels like Aldi and Lidl and you get proper baked breads not that parbaked crap you find at Lidl and Aldi full of fungus/yeast and extra chemicals. I just think Tesco provide the best shopping experience but then my local Tesco store is probably the nicest I've ever been in. Unsure how Tesco is rated on Which but probably badly.

If I was rating Which I would review it as: Extremely thin magazine at incredibly high cost with often poorly thought out articles and reviews.

Its certainly the most expensive spexy - have you seen those Charlie Bingham ready meals at £8.99 by crikey thats a lot for not a lot!

Posh nobs gaff like M&S for those who wish to be seen and heard lol

Or as my mum used to say around here "the fur coat and nae knickers" brigade!

I occasionally pop in for the free coffee it has to be said it is lovely!

The yellow sticker reduced price stuff is a laugh - when they reduce their goods they then become about the same price as something from Asda - we always have a laugh at that

My girlfriend has become posh however and she only shops in M&S and Waitrose she refused to darken the doors of Asda or HB or any of the "poor folks shops" she has succumbed to the advertising and says the food is better quality by miles!

HMMMMMM

I prefer Iceland myself those STUFFED CRUST HOT DOG PIZZAS, CHICKEN TIKKA LASAGNE and especially the LUXURY SRI LANKAN CURRYS - OH MY Orgasm on a plate!

We dont have sex anymore I just pop to ICELAND for a couple of SRI LANKAN CURRYS NOW lol

😜

Lol some do like it hot at even the coldest of places 😜

yes you’re right about the reductions, although I have managed to find a couple of waitrose shops that do better reductions than most, mainly as they don’t do that silly thing where they reduce by increments - it’s literally 50-80% off or nothing at all. I don’t think I’ve bought many items full priced from waitrose, only the occasional treat 😊

hspexy Hmm i find the most diverse and interesting food in Iceland actually.

I used to shun the place until i actually found out that food frozen at source has better quality, more vitamins etc than the fresh shipped stuff!

I mostly cook from scratch though but still Iceland has some lovely lobsters, amazing king scallops and great bags of frozen veg to make stir frys and currys with but a bit pricey at £12 a bag for the scallops and £20 for lobster but well worth it for a treat!

A couple of their luxury meals cannot be beaten even by M&S or Waitrose - notable the Sri Lankan curry and the Tikka Makhani luxury range - very tasty indeed but with ma big beely i need two of each so £2.89 x 2 quite expensive so i prefer to cook from scratch!

garygemmell I will have to try them out. Funnily enough, when Iceland used to sell kangaroo and crocodile (amongst other things), I was buying stuff like that from then, so I must admit they’re quite diverse, although I shun the non frozen stuff as they’re definitely not that exciting

Marks and Spencer have the best quality food. Waitrose food doesn't keep very well and goes off quickly before its sell by date.

I usually buy the stuff to eat on the day, mainly as they’ve been stickered, so I don’t really experience such issues. But you’re right about M&S food - I get stuff from them all the time, as I usually have vouchers for them, so it’s one way to get fancier food at a good rate

I never used to shop at Waitrose, until I have moved and that the only major local store I have and I have to say is my favourite by far. Yes it is more expensive then other supermarkets but you do get what you pay for and their customer service is amazing!

they do deserve it, based on my experiences with them. John Lewis, which is who they are part of, are excellent and I only get good service from them

Its more expensive for same products in Asda. If its not quick and cheap then its not a good shopping experience
