Wake up Energised?

Ask a Question

I never feel good when I wake up, always feel groggy and my body aches!. I had 8 hours sleep last night so don't think it's not enough sleep. Does anyone else feel like this or is it just because I'm getting old!!!

MumOfThree sorry didn't have time to elaborate before but am back now.

I am now going to climb on my bandwagon lol! A few years ago it wasn't so common for everyone to be spouting about health and food and drink and because I seldom felt thirsty i didn't drink much. Then water drinking became the thing and I started making myself drink several glasses a day. Prior to that I would wake like you (I was in late 50s) every bone aching and hard to even swing out of bed and stand up, stooped like an old woman and slowly unbending. I also had dry itchy skin, was very constipated😯 and generally lacking energy. My joints also hurt a lot.

After a short time of drinking more, not one, but every single one of those symptoms disappeared and I realised that for years I had kept going probably always on the verge of dehydration.

Of course I get aches and pains and the old knees struggle with too many stairs now but I am in my 60s and too lazy to exercise so it is my own fault.

I would urge anyone to drink more fluids if they feel lethargic or any of above symptoms.

Lynibis it never crossed my mind that it could be down to lack off water but makes sense. I'm the same - don't rally feel thirsty during the day. I'm definitely going to drink more and hopefully will see the difference.

MumOfThree Forgot to say I had less headaches too. And don't restrict drinking too long before bedtime. Lots of people think you will have to keep getting up in the night but I have realised that if your bladder is empty it irritates and the small amount in it is so concentrated it replicates the feeling of needing the loo. If you just drink normally toward end of day you shouldn't need to get up. I rarely do but most people my age seem to moan about waking up for the loo.

I wouldn't recommend too much coffee as it is a bladder irritant, I never drink it after 1pm. Tea less so but I still don't drink too much later in the day.

Lynibis I do try not to drink before bed so that's interesting to hear. I'm trying to track how much I'm drinking today and having a glass of water in between tea!!

Sometimes a good long sleep makes me feel worse I find.

Im up every 2 hours during the night at the mo with my poorly dog (she has diabetes and needs to pee very often) so hardly ever get an unbroken sleep. Usually i feel abit rubbish in the morning but once ive had a cuppa and got my old bones moving its not too bad.
