Is Walking Going out of Fashion?

Chatting to a taxi driver who occasionally works with us we were talking about the rain and more folk calling a cab......understandable.
He then surprised me by saying he is constantly surprised by the folk who jump in his cab for a 100 yard ride. I actually didn't believe him but he insisted he had recently taken someone from our local supermarket literally between 100 to 120 yards up the road.
Ah, said I, they probably had heavy bags to carry or were unable to walk very well but no, he replied, they appeared to be a healthy looking 30 year old with one bag!
I can foresee a future where humans will have lost the ability to walk and we will all move around in robot like machines that do all the movement for us!
Id be walking to save money and drive if its a bit further. I think with how technology is going we want things instantly, people seem to be in a rush or a little lazy.
I‘m not surprised. I find that in cities in general, no matter the country, the younger generations prefer to pay for a cab than walk, as they don’t see the appeal in walking, no matter the distance. I can only understand it is the weather is not good, but even in that instance I would walk as I can’t justify spending money to go somewhere if I can get myself there for free
Not for me. If I have time I always prefer and enjoy walking to my destination, even if it's raining. I wouldn't waste money on such a short cab journey.
just laziness I walk everywhere rain or shine don’t drive but wouldn’t waste money on taxi or buses I walk kids to school just under a mile each day and they don’t morn it’s too far or it’s wet walking clears the mind
Well, I am paying for my laziness in not walking enough. The thing is I am not particularly lazy, I will do any walking necessary, but I don't make the effort to go out for a walk, too happy to sit in front of the tv every evening. But I work alternate weeks 6 days, 5 days and I am worn out in the evenings. What with housework, gardening, decorating, shopping.........well, you know what I mean. But my legs are giving out on me and walking is quite painful now, sleep elusive, and basically I am getting old lol.
I only drive if it is too far to walk to or I know I will have a lot of bags and wouldn't manage them with the pram. I don't take a taxi anywhere unless I absolutely have too.
We're lucky to live by the countryside, so we go for plenty of walks, it helps to clear the mind too after a busy day at work.
I think a lot of my problem is I have no one to walk with and it is boring on your own. Also living in the middle of town doesn't make walking an attractive option, concrete, dog poo, litter etc. I envy my sister who literally lives in the middle of a huge field surrounded by lovely areas to walk.
I used to live in a town too so I know the feeling and where you are coming from. It's so different living in a village surrounded by fields. I could say get a taxi or a bus to the countryside but that defeats the object of this topic!!
Well, if I were motivated enough I would drive out of town to seek out some nice walks, but it is a lonely thing to do and wouldn't like to go off on my own!
That's just lazy. I could understand if they're old, disabled or injured. Life must get expensive for them though!
