Wallpaper Are You a Fan?

Ask a Question

We are thinking of decorating our lounge and are thinking of having a feature wall, there are some really great wallpaper around. I watch a lot of TV programmes and wallpaper has come on leaps and bounds. However my husband isn't a fan and suggested we just paint as that was easier to change. Are you a fan of wallpaper?

No I'm not. After a while it looks tatty and often peels at corners. Furniture also leaves scrapes and tears in it. If you have painted walls you can wipe over, if gouged you can fill and touch up. You can also hang beautiful artwork and commando strips mean no holes or drilling.

You sound like my husband, I may let him win this argument 🙂

Yeah am a fan. Made a big diff to my living room and other rooms after them being the same for a while. Would only peel at corners if it wasn’t pasted properly. A feature wall is a fab idea.

We have wallpaper on the wall going up our stairs as it was there when we moved in. I wouldn't have picked the wallpaper as it isn't a design I like but I have nothing against wallpaper. I wouldn't have it in my living room though, I would have it somewhere it isn't likely to get damaged.

In our old house we had lovely wallpaper but in this house it's paint only. I don't like feature walls as (for me) they are too bold and I prefer something subtle. Paintings liven up our walls. If your walls are uneven you can always use lining paper and paint over that.

No I don’t like it but it’s all over my house! When we decorate I would like the walls painting instead!

Not a fan. I feel like I’d need to change it more often than painting everywhere. It’s nice for a while but paint is more continent. Can easily wipe it and stops my little one from peeling away at the paper lol

I think I prefer painted walls over wallpaper because if a child scribbled all over the walls or they ever got dirty from grimy fingers, you could just paint over it. Also, a painted wall feels much cooler to lean against in the hot summer months.

Before we moved I had wallpaper in most rooms. If your walls are a bit uneven, it can hide a multitude of sins! We now live in a house we have renovated and all the walls have been freshly plastered. They look so fresh and clean - I love it and won’t be papering. Painted walls are easy to clean and touch up. They are also easier to repaint if you want a new look. You can still have a feature wall by painting it a contrasting colour to the others?

I've wallpapered featured walls and it's kind of handy as it doesn't need re painting over and over. My house was full of chip paper so other walls have also been stripped of the nasty stuff and papered with lining paper before painting
