How Do You Deep Clean Your Washing Machine?
Ask a Question
Hi I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the best cleaner, to deep clean, inside a washing machine . I've been putting to much soap in, and it's got lots of soap scum in it . Many thanks
This is a helpful guide from Which on washing machine cleaners.
I use Dr Beckmann, which they have in Lidl at the moment.
We occasionally buy the Dettol Washing Machine cleaner , just a bottle of liquid you add to an empty Hot Wash cycle . Machine looks and smells fresh after, but as to whether it's the best , how do you tell?
Soda crystals are really cheap. I use them in every wash and use less detergent too

Thank you, I've never heard of soda crystals. Ill have a look thank you so much for the link
sarah4701 you’re welcome. They’re really cheap too and they have so many uses.
snoogans888 I use them occasionally on a hot cycle without any washing in. I also put them in the sink and pour hot water on.
I read somewhere to add vinegar in the drum, no need for a boil wash. The vinegar acts to clear the scum and cleans the pipes. In future don’t use fabric conditioner instead replace it with a couple of teaspoons of distilled white vinegar.
tara73ziva oh wow really I'll have to look at the instructions to see if we have one thank you
we used Vamoosh 6-in-one which we got from Amazon as it had good reviews and was good at dissolving hair. Not sure if its better than others but it certainly did the trick for us. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08XQQ55CT/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thank you. I didn't realize their where so many products out their . I'm going to give them all a try over time and see which one works for us . Thanks so much
White vinegar put ¾ cup in the dispenser and then put the machine on the hottest setting , empty. It disinfect machine.
1/2 bag of soda crystals in the drum and white vinegar in the powder or softener bit of the drawer and whack it on as hot as it'll go.
I do the same but only about a cup (mug) full of soda crystals and 3/4 of white vinegar, seems to do the trick ok
neo1 I was following Dri-paks advice to use half a bag, maybe they recommend that quantity so I have to buy it more often

lilminxymoo thank you . Definitely gonna give it a go, lots of people on this discussion have suggested white vinegar and soda crystals.
On the first of every month I spray the inside of the machine with white vinegar and I add a cup full of calgon anti bacterial gel into the detergent tray.
Another vote here for soda crystals in the drum and white vinegar in the drawer. I am also trying to get into the habit of giving the inside of drawer a quick wipe every couple of washes, really helps reduce scum building up.
Yes, I really need to get into better maintenance habits with my white goods, will try to do this too, instead of leaving it and tackling it when it's got grim.
I also switched to liquid soap instead of powder and noticed a huge difference in the scum build up too! I think the powder is deceiving and I was putting far to much in!
my washing machine has an Eco drum clean setting so every month I put it on that and add some washing machine cleaner and that seems to clean it very well.
