What Are You Wearing to Keep Warm?
Other
I know some will have heating on whatever, but for those of us who are being careful with the pennies and no longer get the heating allowance wrapping up warm is essential.
I would never advise anyone to sit and be cold but so far today (nearly 2pm) I have not felt cold although will put heating on around 3.30pm.
Today I have put on a pair of thick, footless leggings, over thick socks, then a pair of more baggy (due to weight loss) leggings, and over the lot I have leg warmers from ankle to over knee.
I also have a long sleeve t-shirt, long thick jumper (often a thinner one underneath but not today) and finally my bootie slippers.
I have found that when sitting and wearing trousers if there is a gap between socks and trousers my lower legs do not keep warm so leg warmers really help. Also tucking in the t-shirt stops heat escaping. If the jumper is not a roll neck a thin scarf also helps. I am sealed up better than a Christmas present!
If all this isn't enough I have a huge chenille dressing gown and an oodie that makes me look like a huge sheep, and also a heated sofa blanket for watching TV which is cheaper than heating the whole house. How are you coping?
I wear a long sleeve top, a jumper and usually a thick fleece or oodie. I wear either leggings or jeggings, socks and my slippers. I tuck my top into my trousers. I also have a blanket for on the sofa. Our son has a Lighting McQueen oodie, only time I get it off him is at bedtime, he absolutely loves it.
Not had to wrap up too much as of yet but I plan to buy some thermal undergarments in the next few weeks as the temperature has really dropped. One thing I've found over the years though is either wearing elasticated jogging bottoms or pulling my socks up over the bottoms of my joggers to stop any cold air coming in
Just pj's and housecoat I'm always in these once I know I'm not going out again if it's really cold then we have a blanket
Heating is on for an hour morning and night inbetween we have fleece lounge trousers, thick socks and jumper and I've just bought some fleece/thermal lined leggings. I think it's time to bring back the liberty bodice!
lilyflower I think everyone is economising so much the energy companies are not making as much huge profit as when the prices first soared, hence the continuing rises. Once they reach high profits they are loathe to see them go down again!
It was 15 degrees today down here in Yeovil so actually a very nice temperature as we are in late Autumn almost Winter. I wear one of those all over hoodie things meant to keep you warm in winter and also wear it in bed when the temperature gets lower. So far I've not needed to put heating on and still have just a sleeping bag over me rather than duvet but I feel the duvet will start being used very soon. Actually I do use a duvet but its underneath not on top. When winter really hits I might have 1 duvet underneath and 2 above. I know when its really winter as I wake up looking like Davy Crockett as I have a cat for a hat. I have to say this all over hoodie thing is saving me a huge amount of money. I'm extremely comfortable heat wise even on the coldest days, its absolutely brilliant and was a godsend last winter and will be again this winter. I do look like some sort of grey polar bear going about though.
BonzoBanana I must admit my sheep like Josie goes down to my ankles but still allows drafts around the hem, especially when sitting cross legged as I am prone to do. I feel socks, leggings and leg warmers are still needed.
I've blankets in the house and have things like oodies and thick jumpers and dressing gowns. I drink a lot of hot drunks
Jerseydrew or do the hot drunks drink a lot lol? Sorry, just being silly with your typo.
Lynibis lol didn't even spot that but alcohol does heat you ul if you are that way inclined
In the living room I put the fire on for a couple of hours to warm the room and then it stays warm most the day then
Even with heating on its still been cold, I've been wearing 3 pairs of socks, thick joggers and my North Face fleece
martinlufc5637 I can't get my slippers on over more than one pair of socks lol. But the leg warmers solve that as they go over the bootie slippers.
PayItForward I love the look of gilets but I find I need sleeves or my arms feel cold.
I finally this week put a duvet in the duvet cover. Still wearing shorts and t shirt though
I find wearing a few layers helps. Long sleeves tops under tops of even staple vests locks in the warmth. Electric blankets and throws can’t live without mine.
I have been quite warm today, I’m wearing a t-shirt and cargo pants. No heating has been on. We have had visitors and been around a bit indoors today. A mug shot or a cup of tea usually warms me up if I am cold. Still have windows open at night as it gets so hot in our bedroom.
I wear my M & S Thermal Fleece top with long sleeves, a vest top & a hoodie at work.
At home we have our dressing gowns, oodies & electric blanket plus we put the heating on for a few hours..
I found a way to keep warm today, a job I have put off for a very long time. I finally took bedroom curtains down and took them up (using wonder web), while they were down I cleaned the curtain pole the windows and frame, climbing up and down on a chair. It took a couple of hours and I only did one of the pair but by the time I had finished I was sweating like a good 'un. Will do the other one tomorrow but at least the cleaning part is done. Good exercise and kept very warm, will try to do some heavy jobs more often!
