Wendys Returning to the UK
Ask a Question
Just saw this and it’s been a long time since I’ve had anything at a Wendy’s
When was the last time you’ve visited a Wendy’s?
Never visited one of these but was hoping to visit one in America but holiday got cancelled for obvious reasons. Do you know where this is opening?
Some of the smaller independent burger shops do the nicest burgers. I've been unimpressed with McDonalds and Burger King burgers and in the past they seemed to be a lot cheaper than they are today. I'm not seeing a lot of difference in price between some of the more interesting burger outlets. If Wendy's is a franchise and people have to make a huge investment in order to use the Wendy branding then you have a lot of additional costs to add to the cost of the burger. If its anything like McDonalds or Burger King I'll only use them when there is an offer on.
On the same subject (sort of) has anyone watched 'Rate my Takeaway' on youtube. A chap from Barnsley who is a bit rough who goes around checking out takeaways and even brings his own table and chair to eat the food outside the restaurant. The youtube channel is doing brilliantly well and there is something slightly addictive about watching it. I'll have to admit the food he is interested in is much more my sort of food, sort of working class food from all around the world rather than posh grub.
I’ve not seen it, but I did used to watch the pengest munch guy rate the chicken shops in London a few years ago. If it’s similar, I can see the appeal, as it’s more relatable grub
We visited one a few years back at Washington Airport , it was ok nothing special, just another burger outlet, similar to Burger King in the UK.
I know there was one in central london almost 2 decades ago, but they didn’t do so well. There are still some Wimpys around
hspexy I thought all the wimpys have gone by now.
Wendy’s I assume is American and they are coming back. Will give it a try if one opens up.
rossruby1977 I thought the same, but then I saw a few on the outskirts of london. Wendy’s is American, but I’ve only had it here previously as well as out in malaysia
I think Wimpy which was inspired by the Popeye side character was the British burger chain before the big American brands. Looking on the Wimpy site the nearest to me is Swanage and I'm in Yeovil which is about 40 miles away. I'm sort of interested in going to a Wimpy just because it was the very first burger I ever had just to see what they are like today and a bit of nostalgia. Here is the wimpy I got my first takeaway burger from and like so many places is now gone and replaced with a Burger King. There was one in nearby Taunton only a few years ago but now that is gone too.
BonzoBanana I used to love Wimpy, we had one on the corner of our local high street when I was a kid. It closed down years ago sadly, as did the ones in the surrounding areas. I actually thought they'd all gone until I read the comments here.
angelik Sadly it does seem a matter of time before they are all gone, seems like a company in retreat that isn't competing with the big burger chains.
BonzoBanana Never been in a Wendys used to go in Wimpy alot as one close to work back in the day
rossruby1977 there’s still a Wimpy in Littlehampton town and it was rammed on Saturday. We keep meaning to try it out for nostalgia.
I don't really eat fast food burgers, but I'll look forward to getting a Chocolate Frosty. I wonder if they will be adding their Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple (cheeseburger) to the UK menu. Only 1520 calories. I hope that comes with a defibrillator on the side
Wendy's now have two restaurants in the UK, with more expected. The first one is in Reading and the second has recently opened in Stratford Shopping Centre, London. They're not currently selling the Pretzel Bacon Pub Triple (pic above) in the UK, but you can get a Dave's Triple at a 'healthy' 1204 kcal.
It's a U.S. fast food chain very well known there, not in U.K.
By the way, the OP used the word "returning" correctly as they had been in U.K. in 2001 previously.
To be honest they are always the nicest because you make them with exactly the way you like them and the ingredients are often better quality. A burger is not hard to make well. It is still nice to have a burger out though and some of the more upmarket burger chains do a very good job but not so much McDonalds and Burger King which are lower quality in my opinion.
BonzoBanana I remember having a burger at McDonald's once never again
My daughter started making burger wraps during lockdown they are very good
Imnotcheap I wouldn't go as far as you but yes McDonalds isn't amazing and so unhealthy despite loving my food I go many years between McDonald's visits. If I have a decent voucher though I'll definitely go. I think 3 years back was sent a voucher book and you could buy a burger and chips for 99p to £1.99 depending on which one you went for and I used most of the vouchers I think and then when no vouchers were available stopped and haven't had a McDonalds burger since. I did go into one perhaps 9 months ago and looked at the prices which were now far higher and just walked out, it was in Bath city centre and I just didn't feel the food justified anywhere near that price. Tell a lie that might have been Burger King not McDonalds (I struggle to tell them apart).
I only knew of the one off shaftsbury Avenue in central London, which shut down, but I’ve been told they had a handful of branches, which all closed. This one opening up is in Stratford
Never been to a Wendy’s but will be very minded and eager to try at the first opportunity I get.
Lol indeed. It replaces a Pizza Hut, but its neighbours is Doner Kebab, KFC and Mcdonalds! So it’s in good company...from memory, they do serve their burgers with ample veg...
Yes get in back I'm the 90s I used to love Wendy Square burgers much better than the others
I last had a Wendy’s back in the 80s so will be nice to see them back. I wonder if their burgers will still be square?
dawarwick I was trying to remember if they were square, thanks for confirming
Same here I definitely want to try one once but whether I ever buy again is another matter. Sometimes they open with very good pricing for the first year or so and once they have built up their customer base prices go up.
ive never been to wendys never left the uk to do so, it will be interesting to see how popular it is with the already large amount of fast food we do have.
Never been to one before but I'd love to go and try it out! Whereabouts in the UK is this do you know???
Never been to one but I know a lot of people rave about this over in America. Anyone been and if so are they any good?
Imnotcheap you’re not missing out. They’re opening more stores in London, so I’m sure they’re branching out
There’s one that’s opened recently in Kingston. Looked pretty busy and taking away customers from McDonald’s which across the road.
There’s none in Birmingham sadly , any one know any local ones near Birmingham or like near Birmingham?
