What's the Best Cheap Holiday You Have Been On?

Ask a Question

After a stressful year we've decided to book a holiday, bit spur of the moment! Wondering what the best cheap holiday you've been on was? We've done the stay play explore holidays a couple of times which were great for short breaks but have exhausted those a bit now

Vilnius £8 each way and £15 a night Airbnb meals £5-7 but mostly bought and made ours in the local shops.

Eastern europe is where its at if you want a cheap holiday these days!

I live in Slovakia 6 months of the year and I can highly recommend the second largest city Presov amazing streets so clean you could eat off them and painted like Portmeirion , great people, food - what more could you ask for lol

Thats why i live there!

Once the UK goes down the toilet and europe its where everyone will want to move to!

No pollution, most fertile land in europe, hardly any crime - my village hasnt had a serious crime in 20 years much better to bring up children - i mean walking to school in this country can kill you or give you all sorts of benzene and pollutant initiiated problems!

This is my view from my rear window - far rather that than some concrete London housing estate or Glasgow council estate dontya think and cheaper to live there as well - 4 bedroom 3 storey villa with pool for £120k

That looks and sounds stunning, something to consider for our next holiday and make a change from Mallorca, (had some cheapies there). You should work for the Tourist Board - or do you?

LouiseGoodchild PS. You want the HOTEL TOLIAR - Try the Vitalny Svet - nothing like sitting in one of the 5 different saunas looking out onto the snow capped mountains then having a foot bath massage in one of the 3 foot pools then into the ice room for a quick dip in the ice water barrel or how about the ice cave pull the rope and down comes slushy ice to cool you off - then there is the infra red sauna for you back , swimming pool , jacuzzi rooms and the heated beds for relaxing and reading a book - It is simply amazing and the best in Slovakia and only £9 its worth double that!

Hotel has its own restaurant - the free breakfast all you can eat is amazing and it has its own shops and supermarket inside too - perfect for summer or winter sports or hiking to places like Popradske Pleso

And the best thing - NO BRITISH FOOTBALL SHIRTED TOURISTS SWEARING , GETTING DRUNK AND CAUSING TROUBLE - The pubs all close before midnight!

Our first visit we got 5 days in the hotel with breakfast for £100 but then I speak Slovak and my Slovak girlfriend knows how to get stuff cheap THE Slovak way but tips are unheard of so if you tip someone they will be your servant for the rest of the holiday and your reputation quickly spreads as a Bohaty Tourist lol.

The mountain hikes are amazing you will see things like cemeteries in the mountains for all tyhe climbers who lost their lives, there is even a crashed world war II plane monument to the Slovak soldiers who lost their lives and of course being a religious country you will see lots of things like these amazing religious carvings on your walks!

Latest Coronavirus. Have you seen this? Are you going to be affected?

BBC News @ 13:27

Slovakia to shut its borders

Slovakia is closing its borders to non-residents and shutting down international airports to prevent travel to and from the country, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini has announced.

Border checks will be introduced and schools, sports and leisure centres will close. Shopping centres will also only open on weekdays, the prime minister said.

The country has reported 16 cases of coronavirus so far.

garygemmell as long as it's not a Viking River cruise - Viking Cruises suspended operations worldwide due to the coronavirus, as infections ravage the cruise industry. Viking Cruises cancelled all operations until May on Wednesday due to the coronavirus. The Kyhber is not in Europe 😀

I have done this twice before to go to Wales. It’s kinda annoying that you have to pay for a minimum of 4 people when there is only 2 of you. And then we paid extra to take the dogs too. But other than that it is worth it for a cheap break I guess. The last time wasn’t so great as it just rained the whole time we was in Wales lol.

My favourite place to go is Amsterdam. I love the beautiful scenery and the history including all the museums, especially the Anne Frank one if your planning to go to Amsterdam that museum is a must see place to go to.

Not for me i got my whole £250 holiday money lifted by a black guy down one of the alleys in the Red light district - it was a boys "toking" holiday of course lol

Then had my mate spill a whole cup of coffee over my jeans and guess who had only brought one pair of trouse with him - and had to walk around for 3 days with brown stained troosers

My mate Dave had his video camera stolen in COFFEE SHOP 36

My mate Grant got assaulted outside a Kebab shop.

Alan had a bit of an epileptic fit in the Torture museum and fell down the spiral staircase and done himself a mischief

And well the Sex museum that was pretty mind expanding stuff!

Year later my best pal and his pal Stevie got attacked by two black guys with 6 inch bowie knives in broad daylight in the centre of the Leidseplein with loads of folks around - they just ran with these two nutters chasing them with 6 inch knives - No for me Amsterdam is the pits the lowest of the low - seedy, dirty, filthy canals and full of low life drug dealers and durty ladees - If you go you really have to watch where you go and the people around you so not a relaxing place to go!

I wanted to go see Anne Franks house and the Reichstadt museum but being with "the lads" that was never going to happen lol

I did manage however to bodyswerve the football match!

chelseaturpin Indica or Sativa?

Or perhaps even Ruderalis?

Must admit i did like the JUICEBAR - Most commercial coffee shop in Amsterdam and strictly for the tourists who havent a clue - but the freshly squeezed juices went perfect with a camberwell carrot of African Monkey Ganja, Thai stick no good or a light Manali or Lebanese light brown!

I hope it will be my trip to Scotland at Easter. It is 7 days but two of those are travelling by coach from South England so 5 full days and 6 nights for £359. This includes 4* hotel, breakfast, evening meal, evening entertainment, day excursions and coaching.

Pop in Lyn I can put you up for 5 nights free of charge just lots of arguments you will probably last a day lol

What Hotel?

Where are you going - make sure its not Edinburgh or Glasgow try Inverness or the islands!

If you come to Glasgow or Edinburgh just remember to bring a chib with ya!

garygemmell Isn't it awful, I have gone over the paperwork and can't find the actual location, just know it is Scotland lol. But the hotel is called the Highland Hotel and there are excursions to Inverness and Aviemore, a cruise on Loch Ness, Glencoe, Rannoch Moor and Oban and we also visit the Ben Nevis distillery and the Caledonian Canal.

What on earth is a chib?

lilyflower Nice i like tenting myself - have you ever tried ARRAN?

I can recommend the nudist beach at LAGG its amazing never anyone there but its a nightmare to get down in the car better with a 4x4 but we made it down in my mates old Toyota Corolla and best of all nae midgies - pop up the road to the hotel for a few bevies then back to the beach for a real fire barbecue on the beach - canny beat it.

Worst place ever was the Hostel at Lochranza i think its called the bunkhouse i have never seen so many midgies - the swarm was so strong it was like a cloud of grey you couldnt see through it and god were they biters thats the worst thing about Scotland the killer midgies - one of my pals was actually, yes actually in tears when they went swimming at the falls near Lochranza and he was attacked when he left the water - he was screaming and bawling like a bairn so my mate dave tells me as they were a mile from the car and had to run to get away with the midgie swarm attacking every orifice lol

garygemmell Arran was a 'one' night affair, the other two couples didn't like it. My son walked round it for his D of E gold award - said that was enough, but could have been because they were on a tight schedule and had to make the ferry back or fail the task. Midgies, goggles, keep mouth shut and Avon skin so soft works a treat.

Lynibis Highland Hotel?

Probably FORT WILLIAM - good place to start actually its perfect really anything below FW is pants anyway lol

Although i would recommend Culzean Castle its where THE WICKER MAN with Edward Woodward was filmed and i can share some secrets tourists dont see like the secret pirate smuggling caves below the castle - hard to get to but worth it - i used to go with the boys at least once a month for 20 years so know every rock and crevice lol

There is also a helicopter landing pad next to the castle walled gardens where celebs sometimes jet ion to - My mum met Sean Connery there and up at Gleneagles golf club if you are into the celeb autography thing!

Best idea is to park at Maidens beach then walk along the coastal forest walk to the castle that way you avoid the £20 entrance fee and the bonus is you see everything before you get to the castle like the powder room and the monkey cages , lily pond and forest walk then when you copme back to your car you can visit the best restaurant in Scotland THE WILDINGS just a few hundred yards from your FREE parking space next to the beach or you can take the beach walk and enjoy climbing the rocky promonotories until you get to the pirates cove and explore the caves then up to the castle.

garygemmell If I were going there under my own steam I would certainly be exploring using your knowledge and advice but being a coach trip I will not have my own car with me. They seem to have laid on a pretty good daily excursion so I will be happy to join in with everyone for those, I am going with my best friend.

I just hope part of the evening entertainment includes men in kilts doing the Highland Fling! And if I were lots younger would not mind meeting my own Jamie McKenzie (from Outlander) 😛 😜

The company is called Lochs and Glens and are run by a family firm way down south in Sassenach land.

Lynibis I am afraid the only kilt you will see is on a wall lol

I do however wear a kilt for practical reasons but then I am a bit weird!

There are 3 good reasons for wearing a kilt but i cannot divulge our Scottish secrets to you sassenachs!

The Highland Hotel is not bad actually if it is the one in Fort William - ITS BASIC so dont expect luxury beds and telly , spa etc - basically an old folks home for tourists lol!

Be interesting to see what the Sassenachs regard as a tour of scotland?

I hope its not the usual nonsense of Whisky distilleries to get you pished so you dont notice how crap the tour is lol

I hope you are visiting the HARRY POTTER BRIDGE?

If you had asked i would have recommended you do the west highland railway journey to mallaig and tour the islands it goes over the HARRY POTTER BRIDGE - my mum took my dad on it and even he enjoyed it although there were no golf courses around he still enjoyed it lol
