WhatsApp Ads

Ask a Question

So ads are to start appearing on Whatsapp, and a lot of people have stated they will delete their accounts

It depends on how imposing they are, but if they annoy me enough, I’ll use another app

are you annoyed by this?

I'm not a fan of online ads and have never bought any product or service from seeing them advertised on Facebook, YouTube, etc. Although, I think this move was inevitable given that WhatsApp was bought by Facebook for $19bn almost 6 years ago. I won't like the ads, but not enough to delete my account. Any similar app is likely to introduce advertising at some point in the future if it becomes widely used.

Yes, I know what you mean. The moment they announced the acquisition, I was waiting for the change...I guess we shall see how annoying it’ll be

It's the curse of our age and I doubt anything remains ad free for long. People may say they will delete, but I doubt it very much. Even I use WhatsApp even though I refuse to entertain any other form of social media.

Do you not count this chat forum as social media then? I think of it like that but maybe I'm wrong.

ClaireF1978 Yes I do, but mainly here as a competition site, the chat is lovely but incidental. I would never use facebook, twitter, instagram etc. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters in law and three more or less adult grandchildren and not one single one of us uses social media, not in the way I think of as social media.

That’s perhaps true, but there are alternatives out there that people might switch to, but it all depends if they can be bothered
