When Looking for a House, How Important is the Garden?
Ask a Question
Neither my husband or I are interested in gardening, so when looking for a house, we wanted a small low maintenance garden. However my friend is a very keen gardener and wouldn't move anywhere without a large South facing garden. What about you?
I'm not a gardener, so not bothered about it from that aspect. I have a toddler and a dog so for us a garden is essential, but I want something that is low maintenance. Our current garden has grass and decking out the back and mono blocks out the front, so easy to maintain. When looking for a house I am more interested in the inside of the house but I would still expect the garden to look tidy.
If have kids south facing garden gets so hot with no shade we cant use ours in day because of ir being south facing
But living in Wales the sun would only bother you 1 or 2 days of the year as it rains the rest of the time !?
Golfforall true but lockdown this year was one of best summers we had and stuck indoors.
Get yourself a big gazebo Ann. When my grandson was small we used to build huge tents with old sheets over the washing lines, peg back an entrance, sling an old duvet on the ground with cushions and kids will feel like they are in an Arabian oasis. We used to freeze loads of squash and have one of my coffee tables in it so we could eat lunch, play on tablets/laptop, scrabble etc. When it got too hot we would load the water pistols and chase each other around the tent dashing in and out of the sheets!
A garden would be nice for options of washing and bbq. Not together at same time obvs . I don’t have one currently but plant pots galore on my balcony and it’s a nice feel to have. Especially climbers. And great for getting a washing Aired on clothes horse.
A garden gives a homeowner a variety of uses. It can be for agriculture, just hanging around with friends and family, or sports.
Plus, with it you don't need to be stuck at home if you must (folks who live in apartments don't get to own a garden, a shared one maybe).
Oh yeah, with your own garden you can also add a shed (something that'll last, not flimsy junk).
A garden has always been a must for me. Growing flowers and veg gives me a real kick. It is also a great place to watch birds and other wildlife. We also have a pond and I love watching the antics of the frogs.
I’d like a garden as it usually adds value to the house, mainly as it’ll be easier to sell on. And I like hanging my washing outdoors
