Whos Going Vegan for January
Ask a Question
Who’s going vegan for January and for what reason is everyone doing it for health? Environment?
I think it's a great idea but I haven't got the time or energy to figure it all out and keep my family happily fed.
I do not think I could go completely vegan. I enjoy fish too much. I gave up meat when I was 18 years old so I feel slightly consciously-rewarded.
I have however given up dairy and gluten last year... so that's my contribution.
I'm not but wish good luck to those who are. I've tried a vegan diet in the past and found it extremely hard.
I'm a vegetarian and would like to go vegan but don't think I could. But i think its great how many companies are really trying, with their new products and menus
I'm not vegetarian but a guilty meat eater so minimise the amount of meat I eat where possible. I did myself a curry the other day with tesco's cheap stockwell curry sauce 30p, some quorn pieces, mushrooms, onions, peas and pepper slices (frozen). It was absolutely fantastic I didn't miss real meat at all. The mushrooms were a short life reduction down to about 12p.
I often do myself a bowl of veg with gravy and I'm moving to vegetable stock cubes and gravy for that so another meal that is vegetarian.
For salads I will struggle, at the moment I often have tinned tuna with it, not sure what will make it as interesting that is vegetarian but would like to stop using tuna. If I'm not using tuna its likely sliced meat or salmon at the moment. Also I use non-vegetarian cheese with my salads. I do really enjoy salads as they currently are, feel better for eating them too, I don't want to change unless it will be equally as nice otherwise I'll end up avoiding them.
That's great, i dont pester people about becoming a veggie or vegan its up to that person, but its nice to see people having a meat free day once a week.
KirstyW I do try, many years ago I used to regularly walk to work which took me past a cattle market and I would see a huge number of sheep and their conditions didn't look ideal and were very innocent affectionate creatures and I decided to stop eating lamb which I haven't done for decades. The intention was to extend that to other animals but I never did sadly. I feel its getting easier and easier to go vegetarian as there is a decent variety now. If I go to wetherspoons I have their vegetarian breakfast rather than a normal english breakfast, their quorn sausages are fantastic and seem to taste much better than the quorn sausages I can buy in a supermarket. Also with the environment being such an issue nowadays meat alternatives are often far less damaging to the environment. Also I tend to look up to vegans and vegetarians and look down on meat eaters so it would be nice to be on the moral higher ground. Compared to my old meat eating diet and my current diet I guess I'm about 60% towards being a vegetarian with many meals I eat now being vegetarian. However I think I'd struggle to stop having a sunday roast.
BonzoBanana its kind of good that you saw it and made that decision yourself. It is hard when certain meals taste good, and they don't always have gteat alternatives, i never cook a roast at home its too much effort but at xmas we have the quorn joint.
Why go vegan just for a particular month?
Trends such as "Veganuary", "Dry January" and other months with fancy names are all money making gimmicks.
I'm not going Vegan for January but am aiming to reduce my overall meat consumption and experiment with some vegetarian and vegan recipe's over the next month and if successful will continue it
I don’t think I could. I like meat and fish too much, although I would like to do more to make vegetables more interestin.....
Never love my food too much to worry what’s in it plus I certainly don’t agree with vegans forces it on there toddlers when that’s all they wont in class is abit of that yummy birthday cake
These abstinence months are really a bit pointless. You may get a sense of achievement if you make it to the end of the month, but it doesn't really achieve anything. If you want to make healthy and/or ethical lifestyle changes you have to permanently change your bad habits
I think everyone has free choice and not every one is going to be mustard (vegan friendly) keen to take this up. I think the more awareness about 'mindful eating' it can only be a good thing.
I restricted my diet for health reasons. Some chaps change their diet for environmental reasons. I think any efforts to reduce the consumption of meat can only be a positive thing.
'Game Changers' on Netflix is an interesting watch.
Xx
no thanks. I was a vegetarian for 13 years and since reverting back to an omnivorous diet, I almost went all out carnivore. I like meat, so I won’t be giving it up
RegularComper90 yum I think chicken is perhaps only my 4th favourite meat, and the fried variety is indeed irresistible
No, I will be eating meat same as always. I think the vegan lifestyle is very forced upon us nowadays. I hate being told what to do so it will have no effect on me.
I think many people only go vegan because of how trendy it seems to be nowadays. Others are doing it, so they follow suit.
It's just like making sure to have the latest iPhone. Same principle.
