Who's Happy if Points Go for Posting a Chat

Latest Deals

Well I am for one happy to see it go. Its getting boring now same type of thing i think better if posters get little extra for sharing a deal if hit 25+ likes

Whilst I do agree with you, this has been talked about quite a lot in another topic on the first page.

At the moment there are a lot of in my view uninteresting topics on Chat, but then you just pass them by if they are not of interest to you, other may find them interesting or useful. Think removing points may reduce the chat section considerably .

I think it will do the opposite and increase the quality of chat. When people keep adding silly topics just for points it clogs up the chat section and more interesting posts are pushed back.

If you are right and it reduced the chat section considerably then it would just prove that people are only go on it for the points and will post any silly old thing like the wearisome cats v. dogs type topics.

What a narrow minded view you have , you should get out more - Nothing is pointless in life, everything has a meaning a beginning an endpoint and people who will find it interesting otherwise it would get zero replies.

Me i am open to everything in life regardless of the topic - you never heard the phrase "one mans meat".?

Hate narrow minded viewpoints seems there are a load of old grannies on here who want the site the way they want it and dont want any controversial views or actual proper debate just agreeing with everything and doing the usual pedantic and boring virtue signalling - i would have though after Liam Neesons faux pax you would have realised this!

I suck up information each and every day and have learned stuff from even what would appear the most mundane topics and one day that info might come in useful when i finally get onto "who want to be a millionaire" lol

I'm new to this so can I just ask, do you get points just for setting up a new chat topic?

If so, maybe change to a points system where so many replies/likes are needed to trigger the points?

I have noticed plenty of random chat topics

You have caught on to that idea very quickly as many of us feel that is the way to go. No points for creating a topic but if it is interesting and you get say 5 replies then yes, get the 20 points for starting it. I think lots of folk feel there are too many point gathering topics that swamp the good ones.

I can not agree with shared deals only getting points if they get a certain number of LIKES. I have seen far too many good deals get just a few likes and totally rubbish deals (a few pence off a packet of crisps etc,) get numerous likes.

It should be obvious to anyone that far too many chat topics are started just for the points (as are some so called deals) and it only takes two people to start chatting on a topic, of no interest to anyone else, for someone's suggestion that points are dependent on responses for that idea to be ruled out.

I suppose it's back to the drawing board - but before then here's a suggestion that will horrify some: (from someone who gets most of his points from chat) Why not stop all points on chat, why should we be expected to be rewarded for having the opportunity to chat!

(don't some people wish there was a way to "dislike" comments at times like this ☺)

The original post seemed to be saying do away with points for chat threads but instead get some EXTRA points if the deal hits 25 likes, on top of the 100 you get anyway. Maybe I have read this thread all wrong?!

Should it matter how many people join a topic? If 2 enjoy the chat is that not enough?

Tbh davidstockport I am going to try and wean myself away from chat. Throughout I have always tried to be polite, non offensive or rude but sadly that can't be said of all. I don't post many topics because I don't want to bore folk with trivia, having said that it is called chat and is not really the place for serious debate or confrontations. I am fed up with wondering how disagreeable someone may be to a comment, not just mine. As for being a narrow minded old granny, all I can say is age comes to us all and I hope when the younger members are old they get grief from those coming behind them.

If narrow minded means being respectful of others feelings and not 'saying it as it is' or being confrontational then I plead guilty.

Truthfully I'm fed up of the same people moaning about the points. If you don't like the chat, then don't come here. No one forces you to use latest deals. Its the same people going on and on trying to force the issue of getting rid of points. You don't want points, yes we heard the first 1000 times you posted it. Some of us like the points. If you think the chat is so boring what makes you think your topics are so interesting? Going on and on about banning points is boring as hell! I suggest if you find the chat boring turning off your phone or laptop and going out. Talk to people off the internet. Start a new hobby.

garygemmell You assume too MUCH - I don't think you challenge my intelligence (nor would an amoebo). I do find you very insulting though. I don't think I'm alone either judging by the total indifference shown to what, I found an extremely sexist posting by you yesterday, and other "unfunny" things you think are hilarious.

As you say; you usually get one extremely boring person on every forum - perhaps if you check the "LIKES" for comments on this thread (and some others) you might get some idea of who is in close contention for that title here. If you need any help it's someone who thinks putting "lol" at the end of his posts and throughout his posts thinks it excuses bad manners and boring behaviour.

Incidentally if you were to call me "a negative old granny" to my face you might find you had very little to LOL about for quite some time.

Loislane Its ok i just got my 100,000 poijnts last night so if they ban me nae hassle just means i have more time to spend at the gym or doing some more car mechanics - i waste too much time on here already gave up facesplatter, twatter and instafanny so no big loss i will give you my email addy you can chat that way and i might even allow you access to my ftp server so you can get the latest movies series etc for free har

First day back tomorrow pumping iron at the gym i am a bit self conscious now i have gone up to 238lbs when i was actually 240 when i was a bodybuilder so its kinda embarrassing - so i am going to be in agony and probably in bed for the next two days lol

I used to do karate as well so am thinking of going back to that too see if i can get higher than my old brown belt as I never got the black - got to get exercise to get fit again and Karate Do is the best way to do it believe me - why dont you give it a try?

I only create a chat when there is something I want to talk about or ask information about, so it wouldn't bother me at all if the points were removed for posting a chat.

I very rarely create chat topics so i wouldnt mind if the points for creating a thread were removed. Perhaps it would stop the same topics and pointless chats being posted 🤣

Spot on Kirstey - I rarely create a new topic either. It's supposed to be "chat" but those often creating chat topics have no interest in chatting.

Before the points system was introduce, hardly anyone used the chat section, and it certainly wasn’t a section I used unless I needed help with bugs on the site (so I used it to contact the team more than anything else). And when the points system was introduced, the number of posters increased, making the site much more interactive, although I appreciate the extra work that must be involved with the moderation. For me, the chat section is the most human part of the site, the part where some people seem to be able to connect and discuss random things, and I have personally enjoyed a lot of the topics, even if it were for a fleeting moment. The points system certainly encourages people to bother posting in the first place, and though there are topics that are not my cup of tea, it is easy to skim and read something I do have interest in, just as easy as skimming through the newspaper or social media feeds. So if the LD team can see from their reports that it’s not working out for them, then I understand and support for it to be removed - after all, the site is evolving and things that worked before may not work as well now. But I hope the decision made is also made from the newbies’ perspective rather than just existing members, because it’s easy to think something is boring after you’ve been on this site a while, but for a newbie who is still navigating through the site, it may be the only way they feel they can connect with existing members, which will keep them interested in the site
