Why Doesn't Searching Chat List Threads by Most Recent?
Ask a Question
Seems strange that the list is all over the place with old dates at the top and recent threads hidden further down. Seems logical to me to list the most recent first. When you look at other forums searches it is common for the most recent thread to be listed first.
They are basically listed newest first it's just for example a chat topic post 4 days ago gets a comment on it come back to top. A lot of members think the chat sections needs a whole new clear out.
Ann1984 and Golfforallall I think you are misunderstanding the question (very easily done) it is, in my opinion, asking about the order in which the relevant topics are shown when using the SEARCH feature.
It appears Kelsey shares my interpretation.
davidstockport as Golfforall mentions if I leave comment it comes back to the top. 6 comments
Ann1984 Yes it does BUT this confusingly worded question (IMO and Kelsey's interpretation) doesn't refer to a comment being POSTED but when a SEARCH is made. Using the "Search Chat" feature.
The question "Why Doesn't Searching Chat List Threads by Most Recent? might have been less confusing if phrased: " Why when using "Search Chat" does it not list the results in "most recent" order?
Even a comma or spacer after the word Chat might have made things clearer.
Hope that explains. if not I'll try again
Hey
When you search we try and balance relevance with recency. For example, when you search for "cheese" we find all topics about cheese. The first results would definitely be about cheese and the last might, maybe be about cheese. But we also know that people tend to be more interested in recent posts rather than old ones. So we try and balance these two things out and show a best guess of what people might want to see.
Hope that makes some sense as to why it works the way it does. But we're always open to feedback and changes!
Must admit I prefer it to be the most recent as that is often the most relevant but maybe a filter function so you can select what you prefer?
BonzoBanana I think it works on the most recent comment posted on the thread (not on the topics original posting date . So this topic should move to the top of the list after this comment ?
