Why Are some People so Selfish? 3000 People in a London Park.
In the News
A London park is to close tomorrow because 3000 people fancied a day in the sun. I find is disheartening that some people are so selfish and did not stay at home today. I honestly can't understand the way some people are. Is it a lack of empathy? Hard to understand.
People do seem to find it hard to have empathy or sympathy towards strangers and do not seem to care if their acts hurt others as they won't be hurt by any consequences. But just see how angry they would be if any of their loved ones came to harm because of the selfish acts of others.
Honestly I just can't understand it. I've been walking home and want to say to people laughing and messing about outside to go home. Some of these people sunbathing are probably clapping on a Thursday. It is shocking and sad that it's still happening.
Lynibis I totally agree people are selfish and don't care for others as they know they will face no consequences but when family members come to harm they won't be happy.
It's funny isn't?
Before Covid-19 reached the UK, those exact idiots were most likely indoors on their tablets/xboxes/laptops all day. But now, they can't seem to stay in! xx
Hi, that's probably the truth and I agree that they are idiots. Not sure if they will wake up so I imagine more parks will close soon x
Dani1 Hi i am thinking that too they might close more park soon because of these selfish people they donโt listen . one of park near to my sister house there was 20 menโs was having drinks few days ago someone report it then police came they gave warning and they removed them from the park. in my area people walks like nothing happened I am quite worried about my little one itโs been third day he want to go out but I donโt let him because you never know those people walking outside might have virus they donโt even use my son has asthma problem as well . these selfish people donโt even think there is little ones they need little walk at least once a day . I have no words to say anything. please take care of yourself and family
Sanitation1234 Why do those selfish people seem to find it so difficult to stay indoors?
Dani1 I have been doing well. Thanks for asking. Been keeping myself fairly busy. x
Sanitation1234 Hi, I think they will close more parks too. I hope so. People will have to exercise in gardens if they have one or in their homes. It's a small price to pay. It'a best to stay home at the moment. Take care too and best wishes to you and all your family x
RegularComper90 That's so lovely to hear x Keeping busy is definitely the way to go. It is such a surreal time. We will get through this x
Dani1 Thanks we have big garden but my son all day do sit by the window and complain about why he canโt go out why all people walking out thank God my other 2 kids teenagers I have only one who complain all day I canโt handle it take care
RegularComper90 Thanks what sheโll I say selfish mad what else they should stay home at least . itโs too much for us especially I am feeling right now canโt explain you my son he is playing ps4 right now later see he will start again .
Sanitation1234 Hi, ah I know it is hard but it's not a good idea to go out especially when you have a child who is asthmatic. That great that you have a big garden. One of my nieces is 3 and was asking why she couldn't go to parks and other people's houses. They explained to her about lockdown and that all the parks are closed etc. She was on the phone to me talking about lockdown. It is difficult but we will get through this x

Under the shelter of each other, people survive
Lack of common sense. If everybody who went out just kept moving and maintained a safe distance from each other, this virus would not spread. It's not rocket science.
Hi Dennab I think you are right it may be lack of common sense. It's been explained so many times though that's it's for exercise not for lying in the sun. I just don't understand the ignorance x
W.T.F??? Which part of everyone telling them to STAY AT HOME cant they grasp exactly??? And what sun? In lancashire usual crap weather, and today dull and windy.happy to stay in tbh.and if we ever get a bit of sun, whats wrong with youre gardens?
Not everyone has a garden, We dont. I'd love to go out, see friends, enjoy the sun. but I'm not an idiot ( well not in this case )
It is frustrating and disapointing. Some people just don't care. It hasn't affected their lives enough yet so going to the park in the sun means more than saving lives x
Glitterandgold Thatโs not a problem everyone allowed to go out but some people donโt take this matter seriously . of course you are not one of them lots of take care I am happy now to talk to you all stay safe
People being idiots is nothing new, but it's all the more frustrating when you & the vast majority of people are doing what needs to be done & these doylums think they can just do as they want. I'd love to go out right now, but I'd love this virus to do one & things to get back to normal asap far more. Shame they dont!
Hi Glitterandgold I couldn't agree more People were told to stay home this weekend as there was to be warm weather in parts of the uk. It's just selfish of the minority putting lives at risk x
Ive not heard that word doylems since a close friends dad passed away about 25 years ago..he said it a lot...not about us though..
Caz2 Its a very apt sounding description isnt it. I hear it used frequently round my neck of the woods.
Dani1 It is. My son hasn't seen his girlfriend in almost 3 weeks due to lockdown & is finding it very tough, hes been getting mad at people not listening & finds it very unfair & selfish. Rightly so!
Glitterandgold i dont know where you are,but my friends dad hailed from scarborough area at one time i believe.
Caz2 I'm from just outside Newcastle but I believe it's a fairly common word in the North East so likely it reaches as far as Scarborough.
They all are making my blood boil half of them have never exercised before only to shop to get there cream cakes sorry if sounds like am upsetting people but in their lycra gear as size who know what camel toe on show and the men in their budgie shorts. Just stay home
Your grandparents who called to war you lot were told to just sit on your arse
Hi, Ann1984 the descriptions of the outfits made me laugh Staying at home isn't a big ask x
So true.they should make these buggers join up & do work on the front line in the hospitals,or help the army to deliver the medical supplies, that would 'get them out of the house' wouldnt it?
To be fair many if not most of the people who went to Brockwell Park probably went there to get their recommended daily exercise. The majority probably were observing instructions about not interacting with people you don't live with and keeping your distance from others. The figure of 3,000 people is spread over the day and not at one time. There are some very big parks or green spaces in London such as Regent's Park, Richmond Park, Hampstead Heath. You can easily fit hundreds of people in any of them at one time and it will still feel empty. Not everyone in London or other cities is fortunate enough to have their own garden. I don't have a problem with someone sitting on the grass for 10-20min if they are keeping their distance from others. I would feel safer visiting a large park than I do shopping at my local supermarket.
I agree the majority are following the social distancing instructions. Unfortunately it's the selfish minority that are risking lives. I do have a problem with people sitting in parks as they are not getting exercise. Supermarkets are bringing in measures to help people to shop two meters apart.
I'm blessed and have a garden and truly sympathise with people who are stuck in flats and the like but please will they not stop and think, they are endangering lives, especially our key workers.
I really donโt understand what needs to happen for them to get it! They are so stupid but would be the first to complain if anyone passed the virus on to them or their families. Would serve them right. These people are role models for children, they need to get a grip
If they got it or their families and (God forbid!) Anyone died THEN they would get the message,...but you know,'too little too late
Until recently, those people were probably the ones who were stuck indoors all day on their computers/tablets/xboxes. But now they can't seem to stay in!
All the kids& younger people i know are so afraid of never having a future that theyre obeying the rules..
There's been a lot made in the press of teens not following the lockdown and to be fair I've seen photos of groups of kids out and about locally. However, my neighbours are all elderly and all in the high risk bracket. It took a good few days for them to settle into the lockdown - prior to that they were still having grandkids round, gardeners in, builders in. We had the old man across the road a few days ago (easily in his eighties, heart condition) knock on the door just for a chat (and get told gently that we weren't taking risks with our little one and that he needed to leave). There was a radio phone locally in with people in this age bracket who said they've had their lives and if they get it, they get it - which would be fine if it was only them it infected and not the copious amounts of other people they come into contact with. It's been difficult to explain to my 17-year old that she can't visit her best friend when people in the street are inviting their families round.
