Will We See a Black Prime Minister?

Other

So when do you think the UK will embrace having a black prime minister?

Like Obama in the USA, we also need to have our own to set records.

No one should be elected just to set a precedence or record. When a black (or transgender, gay, or disabled) candidate is suitable for the job then hopefully the British public will be intelligent enough to vote for them.

In order to even have a chance to be a Prime MInister you would first need get selected as a parliamentary candidate for your chosen political party... Don't you agree there is still some institutional racism in UK politics?

Lynibis No? Where's the proof of this then?

In the UK race is closely related to class, but less with ''separateness'' than the USA. There are more poor blacks and fewer black CEOs. But at a football match, or in a housing estate black and white would generally be more mixed than in the USA.

In the USA, there is less professional discrimination and it is easier for minorities to reach positions of responsibility: Obama, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice do not have equivalents in the UK.

deepcore You seem to have a fixation for race threads on chat. I am not going to get into a debate about it. As far as I can see there is equal opportunities for all in UK and plenty of black politicians, newsreaders, journalists, tv presenters and our own London mayor is Asian. This is my final comment on the subject. Have you ever thought that some are not interested enough, especially if it is not the country of their birth?

Lynibis I don't think you've ever been in the shoes of someone of colour to even experience discrimination. Yeah we have laws in place but in practice not everyone is so welcoming. It's like you're seeing the UK as a land where racism never exists or perhaps you live in an area where everyone loves each other. Don't be silly, there is racism you just don't see it superficially and British people are very sly about it. I know, I'm born and bred here!

Diane Abbott would be great like a prime minister and better than May for sure

I think we need some young people in the parliament

I disagree ...we've got enough in parliament who act as if they're out of control children, if they get any younger we'll need a nappy changing service too.😀

Q: Will we see a black prime minister?

A: Not if it's dark and he keeps his mouth shut.

Seriously... does colour matter! - colour is only skin deep.
