for prospective buyers, I’m sure it’s tempting. But is it enough? There’s so much uncertainty peoples job security atm, and the house prices, especially here in London, are still ridiculously high.

No...and it is just holiday, so after some month u need to start to pay it...probably longer than u actually need to pay it normally and with interest.
I’ve read that house prices in popular areas might even go up as a result of this. So it renders the move pointless for the standard prospective home owner
Also I think through word ‘holiday’ is misleading, as you’re not expected to pay stamp duty at a later date. But knowing any form of government generosity, they will claw it back another way...perhaps when you try to sell
