Winter Spending

Ask a Question

I was noticing that my winter and to be fair spring spending is higher than what I outlay in summer, so you think you're spending coincides with bad weather?

Apart from the obvious energy bills, and obviously Christmas in December, not sure spending in our household is much different throughout the year. During summer we have to pay for holidays , days out etc and tend to spend a fair amount on maintenance & DIY in the house and garden that we don't in the winter , our food costs are fairly constant throughout although we eat different types of food in the summer ( Salads. Barbecues etc) to the winter.

I suppose when you put it like that you're correct although I do tend to pay for the holidays in winter too.

I don't tend to have much extra outlay for Christmas as I get bargains throughout the year for presents and go to my folks for dinner so don't even buy extra food. I do find myself browsing the sales in the post Christmas slump though. I suppose it's less about the season and more to do with how busy you are.

Just checked quickly for 2019 (as I record all my expenses in an app) and I had a big spike in summer, but that's because I was on holiday. I don't seem to spend more in winter, but it's possible I do on things like presents (sales).

I think I just assumed I'm spending more as I'm home more in the winter and tend to browse more but I guess you're right that it balances out with other things that come up throughout the year
