Woman Wins £30,000 Compensation for Being Compared to Darth Vader !!!
In the News
I have seen some ridiculous successful compensation claims but this is up there with the best, no wonder the NHS is in financial trouble
This woman won nearly £30,000 in compensation after a colleague compared her to Darth Vader in a team-building exercise quiz
The force must have been with her to manage to get that small fortune for feeling insulted
Thank goodness she didn't feel insulted about being Luke skywalker's father and not the mother, the compensation might have been more

Makes me wonder how many times I could have sued for compensation for offence. But I don't take offence easily and have always laughed at myself along with others. I guess it would be different if said in a nasty malicious way.

Lynibis I remember many years ago where i used to work in wales there was someone who suffered from bad breath and he was nicknamed darth vader , comparing darths raspy breath to his halitosis
They had a wicked sense of humour but he took it in his stride and never complained about it to anyone such as HR

RegularComper91 I think it's called jumping on the bandwagon R, i am surprised the axle hasn't collapsed lol

These compensations payments should be funded by the person who committed the offence and just be a few hundred pounds surely and that is if the compensation is merited. I can't be bothered to look into the details. In the old (cheap) days the person might be reprimanded for the issue and that is it. This is basically theft from tax payers in my opinion. The NHS should be lean and efficient and operating in the interests of the country and tax payers. This seems such a long way from that. How many important procedures maybe life saving procedures would 30,000 fund?

BonzoBanana I agree with you there B, the NHS is an easy target to claim compensation off
I bet if you tried to claim from a private hospital it would be like trying to get blood out of a stone

telmel Many public sector workers seem to think money is unlimited and tax payers are an easy target. It's disgusting really.

Well the force was with her with that payout, absolutely ridiculous, country has gone completely bonkers, woke

martinlufc5637 I don't know about skywalker M, it was definitely a walkover for the comp

It’s all gone mad really, obviously can see why the lady wouldn’t be too keen on being likened to darth vader but can’t see how that’s worth 30k.

I may not agree with the high compensation but name calling, especially in the workplace, is a no no

KateGriff169 but seriously though how has she managed to get 30k for someone calling her darth vader

KateGriff169 and I've been called much worse than darth vader at work places let me tell you

KateGriff169 You are Darth Vader K , but no compo available i am afraid , the piggy bank is empty

KateGriff169 Being called Darth Vader is a lot better than being called Jabba the Hut or Yoda I guess. I compared Goldie Hawn to Yoda and people thought I was offensive but luckily I didn't have to pay 30k of compensation to Goldie Hawn especially as she knew nothing about it in the first place.
Still Jabba the Hutt is the ultimate insult for anyone with poor skin and overweight although I guess Darth Vader doesn't look great with his helmet off either thinking about it.

I remember years ago a guy stole a motorbike which fell over and broke his foot and he sued the owner and won. Can’t remember how much but how he won that I will never know

TracyStorrie Sounds like something that'd happen in England, victim getting screwed big time while the criminal gets rewarded. Maybe I'm wrong, eh.
I remember a homeowner somewhere in England attacked the home invader and the homeowner was the one that was arrested. Just absurd. You can't even defend what's yours.

PhilipMarc it was actually in America. They live to sue folk over there I heard about the England one though
I’m pretty sure the law changed since then but I could be wrong

PhilipMarc I think it was a farmer many years ago that shot the intruder , a young scally , and he got prosecuted
In the case of farmer Tony Martin in the UK, he shot and killed a teenage burglar named Fred Barras while he was at the house. Martin was initially convicted of murder but was later found guilty of manslaughter after the court acknowledged diminished responsibility due to his paranoid personality disorder. The case sparked significant debate about homeowners' rights and the use of force in self-defence.
