I read this with interest as I have often wondered how people purport to 'earn a living' just doing comps. When I started i entered all and any comps i could find but quickly realised there was no point in entering comps which I really did not want to win. It made me feel selfish and greedy because I won a couple of prizes that really disappointed and then felt guilty because someone else may really have appreciated them. I will enter comps when I know a loved one would love the prize on offer but have ceased entering a comp if the excitement is then replaced by disappointment.
The writer of the article obviously enters everything going and I guess there is no way of creating an even playing field, but I do object to an advert i saw actually offering a wage for someone to enter comps for them and I abhor that.
I am happy to win small prizes like a book or DVD but only if I am a fan of the genre and know I will enjoy it.
I gave this news just a glance as I felt it wasn't reflective of the average comper i.e. me. The only person I 'know' who makes a great deal from comping is Superluckydi.
If the Mirror were to list all those who spend hours doing competitions who don't win anything, or win so little - often of things they don't want or need, then the paper would be so thick and heavy that most paper boys would begin hoping their mothers had won a hernia truss.
I like to keep things in perspective: if people want to enter as a hobby - good luck to them! But if they ever think they can make a living from it... dream on!
