Woolworths - Would You like to See It Return to the High Street?

Ask a Question

https://metro.co.uk/2020/10/27/woolworths-set-to-return-to-the-high-street-next-year-13486187/

I would be surprised if they were to return, as they had such a tough time before they closed last time - and high street business is even harder than ever

Would you like to see them return to the high street?

When they closed I remember being sad but then thought when was the last time I bought anything from them. I think with how competitive things are now I can't see it happening as I think Home Bargins & B&M have taken up that space.

I agree, although I would say the likes of home bargains and B&M are better. Just wish I had one of them nearer to me

I mostly miss Woolworths at Christmas, the trees in the window, choosing new decorations etc. I know there are many alternative shops but there is so much nostalgia involved.

I would like to see them come back to the high street. My mum would take us shopping in Woolworths quite frequently when I was a kid, and then I carried on shopping there when I was older. I used to love it because they had a bit of everything, you could buy so many different things there.

Would love to see it return but don't think anyone can compete with home bargains

Yes,I would.I really miss the pick and mix.But even when it they were still open,Woolworths seemed a bit old fashioned.

No chance this can be a viable concern now that more and more people are ordering their shopping online. I think the pandemic has accelerated any 'late to the party' online shoppers to turn their attentions from the high street to ordering from the comfort of their armchair. Xx

Very much liking the "Pic'n'Mix-up" sub headline to the story 🤣

I loved this store as a kid. Brings back memories of the pick n mix we used to get. Also, all the toys 🙂

There are so many stores similar to Woolworths now though. Not sure how much of a difference it would make

I'd like to see their pick and mix return to the high street, all others pale in comparison

I was bit sad when I found out they was shutting until I found out we was getting a b&m where it used to be. For it to be successful they would need better security back in the day most teens stole something from the store. ( I wasn't one of them)

As others have mentioned, I think the likes of Home Bargains, B&M, Wilkos and Poundland mean there is no real place for it.

It was a hoax ! Think folks need to exercise their grey matter a little more !

I didn't read the article. I was reminiscing the sweeties

Beezyruth the sweeties were definitely something they did well, even though it probably meant a lot of kids lost teeth from having so many sweets

That’s asking a bit too much of people. You are better off managing expectations. Otherwise you just spend your days moaning about what can’t be controlled...

I did used to enjoy going to Woolworths as a little girl but I’m pretty sure that was just for the pick and mix!

It was a staple of the high street back in the day. But these days, competition is tough, so I don't think they would do well, although they seem to do well in Oz

I used to go there a lot as a child. I mostly remember mum used to love going there as she used to pick up some bargains. But there’s quite a few of bargain shops around now so who knows

Hoax aside, I can't see many companies wanting to do a large (re)launch anytime soon due to COVID-19. The Woolworths website lasted until 2015, but if it can't survive online, I doubt it would fare well on the high street if it did return in some form in the future. Unless someone just wanted to use the name, but sell different items.

It would be nice but they will only end up being even more worse off than they did before and will soon have to all close down again. We have Wilkos, B&M and Home Bargains now.
