The nation has spent a long time at home this year and many parents are worried about sending children back to school in September. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, safety and hygiene are at the top of their list of concerns.
The UK’s number one sterilising and hygiene expert, Milton, has some important tips to make going back to school a bit easier for everyone to navigate.
Before school
Take your child’s temperature before school. Sick children should remain at home.
Washing hands thoroughly remains the first line of defense and it’s important to do so regularly throughout the day, including before setting off for school.
Rub hands for at least 20 seconds, including back of hands, between fingers and under finger nails. Dry hands well with a clean cloth or single use towel.
Keep hand gel in a child’s school bag and teach your child to use it properly *. It should contain at least 65% alcohol for it to be effective on viruses including Covid-19 – Milton Antibacterial Hand Gel is one such product. Also include a packet of tissues to wipe noses and catch sneezes.
If travelling by public transport to school, children over 11 years old should wear a mask
Going back to school can make some children anxious, help your children to relax and enjoy their day at school. Answer their questions and reassure them that they are safe.
At school – Children should:
Remember not to touch their face
Not share cups, eating utensils, food or drinks with others
Use disposable tissues and failing this, sneeze or cough into a flexed elbow.
Wash hands with soap and water or use a hand gel very regularly: before entering the class, before and after eating, after going to the toilets, after coughing or sneezing.
After school
Wash hands immediately when arriving home
Remove shoes and change clothes. School Clothes should be washed daily.
If using disposable mask, throw it away, and if you use a fabric mask put it in a hot wash (minimum 60°C)
Clean lunch boxes and water bottles using the below concentrations
At home
Disinfect surfaces at home regularly using an antibacterial surface spray. Pay attention to germ hot spots like door handles.
