The prize Dinner, bed and breakfast for two.
No fleur-de-lis wallpapers or drab toile bedspreads are to be found among the nine bedrooms. Instead, splashes of colour and quirky taxidermy adorn the rooms. The result is a unique country retreat which makes visitors feel like landed gentry as soon as they step over the threshold.
Guests will be equally delighted by the fresh perspective in the kitchen from new head chef Craig Davies and crew. Ingredients from the local terroir are combined with Asian and French influences for a distinctive take on fine dining.
The hotel is a pooch-friendly set-up too, with four-legged friends being given their own bed and toys.
You don’t need a hound at your heels to take pleasure in exploring the grounds, however. Head off on a stomp around the estate’s 25 acres or hike further out to the nearby Two Moors Way for an afternoon of activity. Return to be rewarded by drinks in the Library Bar (mind the stuffed ostrich), before gliding into the restaurant for a three course dinner.
You’ll find no expense spared at breakfast, either – send for mini juices and pastries from room service and take coffee in your free-standing tub or head to the restaurant for the full works.
