Gin Lane 1751 was the first gin producer to pioneer authentically made “Pink Gin”, with its “Victoria” Pink, and is now one of the best-selling. Gin Lane 1751 “Victoria” Pink is a small-batch, hand-crafted gin, made by one of the U.K.’s leading distillers – 8th generation gin-maker, Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers. Pink Gin & Tonic is set to be the drink of the summer and two readers can win a case of Gin Lane 1751 "Victoria" Pink.
Gin Lane 1751 is a quintessentially Victorian style of gin, with a bold, juniper-rich profile. Each bottle has been individually numbered and the gins are hand-crafted in traditional pot stills, with eight natural botanicals – juniper, orris root, Seville oranges, angelica, Sicilian lemon, star anise, cassia bark and coriander – which create a well-balanced, complex gin. Its name signifies an important historical landmark on the gin timeline; the Gin Act 1751, which was in part brought about by artist William Hogarth’s iconic depiction of Gin Lane.
We have the Royal Navy to thank for bringing this most delicious style of gin to our attention. In the early 1900s, Angostura bitters was used to combat seasickness and it was added to the daily ration of gin, as a more palatable way to medicate. It was then brought back to England and became the fashionable drink of the upper classes throughout the Victorian age. Traditionally, Pink Gin is one-part gin with a dash of Angostura; Gin Lane 1751’s “Victoria” Pink is made to these proportions.
