Serendipity plus one of her favourite flower fragrances drew Sarah to the AlaraApothecary stand at this spring’s Natural & Organic Products show. Like a truffle hound, she sniffed the air and followed the scent trail to these delicious botanical beauty goodies, formulated by practising pharmacist Funmi Lampejo, the founder of this lovely range.

Funmi’s special area of interest and expertise is dermatology and the ‘recipes’ for the range germinated, she says, for years. She was inspired, in part, by natural handmade lotions and potions still used in Africa and mainland Europe. ‘There was lots of messy experimentation, which involved roping in extremely patient friends and family members as guinea pigs.’ AlaraApothecary products are manufactured in West London, using local workers. They are based on natural ingredients, with the minimum of synthetic chemicals. All are free of parabens, sulphates and MI (methylisothiazolinone), which may be skin-irritating.
